Last night update production server from PHP5.4 to PHP5.6
The programmers in the group said that your PHP5.6 scared the baby.
Is the environment not able to use PHP5.6 now?

Why can't you?
5.6 has been iterated over 14 official versions, quite stable
And you see the previous changelog (I see almost every one), are small problems or the use of the characteristics of the bug
Then you look at PHP 5.4 changelog (already 45 official version), you will find that the 5.6 fixed bugs in 5.4 also in the same repair
That being the case, you can use it safely
When PHP7 comes out, by convention, PHP 5.4 is the next version to be eliminated.
If it's not because of program compatibility issues, stick with the low version and think that the low version of security is a wonderful thing.
