Hardware and software faults often occur, and ADSL is no exception. When ADSL fails, the result is that the network is abnormal or cannot be connected to the network, next, let's take a look at the problems and faults that may occur during the use of ADSL, and look at the corresponding solutions.
I. hardware equipment faults
Hardware equipment faults refer to faults that occur on devices such as ADSL "cat", network card, and line. The problems on these hardware can generally be determined directly based on the status of the indicators on the ADSL, first, let's take a look at the status of several indicators on the ADSL cat device. There are usually four lamps on the ADSL device: Link, Test, LAN, and Power. Below we will summarize the fault situations of these lamps in different States:
1. Link indicator
Generally, when ADSL "CAT" works normally, the lamp remains on. Otherwise, the current network is faulty, as shown in the following figure:
Status 1: flashes continuously and cannot be restored
This status indicates that the communication line is faulty. In this case, you can test whether the phone can work normally. If the phone can work properly, the line works normally. If the phone is not working properly, it indicates that the line may be short or broken. At this time, you can call the service phone number of the Telecommunications Bureau to allow professional maintenance personnel to repair the line.
Status 2: Indicator flashing
This status indicates that the communication signal on the current line is unstable. If it returns to normal after a while, it indicates that the flashing status of the indicator is caused by the adjustment of the internal line of the telecommunications company, this is not a big problem. After the adjustment of the Telecommunications Department is completed, it will be able to return to normal.
2. Test Indicator
The Test indicator shows whether the "cat" self-check is successful. Normally, the indicator will flash a bit when the "cat" is powered on, because the ADSL "cat" is in the self-check status, once the self-check is passed, the indicator will automatically go off. If the lamp is always on, it indicates that the ADSL "cat" has not passed the self-check. In this case, the "cat" should be disabled first ", then power on or press the reset button to check whether the problem can be solved. If the problem cannot be solved, it indicates that the hardware device has a problem and must be replaced.
3. LAN indicators
The indicator light shows whether the network device connected to the computer is normally connected to the computer. Normally, the indicator light is on normally, if it is not always bright, it indicates that the connection between the current network device and the computer is faulty, as shown in:
Status 1: The Link indicator is always on, and the LAN indicator is not on
This status indicates that the network connection between the ADSL "cat" and the network card is faulty. At this time, you can check whether the connection is smooth and whether there is a phenomenon of disconnection between the connection and the crystal head. In addition, also, check whether the network card is working normally. You can try another network card.
Status 2: The LAN indicator is always on, but cannot be properly dialed
This may be caused by a dial-up problem. You can delete the dial-up software from the system, re-install the dial-up software correctly, and set it accordingly. If it is a self-built dial-up program similar to Windows XP, you can directly Delete the previously established dial-up connection and then create a new dial-up connection). If the problem persists, You can reset the ADSL "cat" and use the default network parameters to work.
TIPS: the method of resetting the ADSL "cat" is very simple. There is a small hole in the side of the ADSL "cat". This hole is similar to the reset hole on the optical drive and is pressed with a thin wire, when you feel that you have pressed the button, you can reset the ADSL "cat" in 10 seconds.
4. Power Indicator
The Power indicator lights up after the ADSL "cat" is powered on. If the ADSL "cat" finds that the Power indicator is not on, it can be determined that the power of the device may be faulty, or the ADSL power converter may be faulty.
2. Two Typical Cases
In addition to the above several problems identified by the ADSL "cat" indicator, let's take a look at some typical fault cases and their solutions:
Case 1: slow Internet access
Cause Analysis
1. The customer's next household line is a core line. There are too many line connections, poor contact and serious oxidation of the joints. This results in low transmission quality and high signal attenuation, affecting the Internet access speed;
2. the Modem chip is overheated because it does not shut down for a long time. As a result, the performance cannot be properly played and the speed of Internet access is affected. In particular, if the Modem is automatically dialing, the Modem may crash and fail to access the Internet.
3. Poor contact between devices and telephone lines and network cables affects the user's Internet access speed. Whether the interface between the telephone line and the voice splitter is in good contact, and whether the interface between the Modem and the NIC is in good contact.
4. users' computer OS faults and online software usage also affect users' Internet access speed. Whether the NIC of your computer runs normally, whether the driver is correctly installed, whether the TCP/IP protocol is correctly installed, whether multiple firewalls are installed, and whether the proxy server is set, whether to run online antivirus software at the same time.
Troubleshooting: Based on the above reasons, check the user's line, connector, Modem Hardware and settings, and the hardware installation and software settings of the user's computer to eliminate faults.
Case 2: No data flow, resume normal data transmission after a pause
Troubleshooting: Check whether the separator connection method is correct, whether the line connection is not in good contact with each other, and whether the fax machine, telephone switchboard, and other devices are connected to the Modem's telephone line. If yes, disconnect these devices and try again; uninstall the currently used PPPOE dialing software, reinstall it, delete the TCP/IP protocol, restart the computer, and add a new TCP/IP.
