New MySQL 5.0 users can use the MySQL Installation Wizard and MySQL Configuration Wizard to install Mysql on Windows. The purpose of designing these two wizard is to facilitate new users to quickly use MySQL. In the MySQL full installation package, both the MySQL Installation Wizard and the MySQL Configuration Wizard are available, and these two wizards are recommended in most standard MySQL installation programs. Without using these two wizard, you need to install multiple MySQL instances on one server and the advanced user wants to completely obtain the configuration of the Advanced Server.
Use the MySQL Installation Wizard
Introduction
The MySQL Installation Wizard is an installation program for the MySQL server. This installation program is based on the latest Installation Technology for Microsoft Windows. The MySQL Installation Wizard and MySQL Configuration Wizard can help you quickly install and configure the MySQL server, so that the server can be quickly used after installation. The MySQL Installation Wizard is a standard installation program for all MySQL Release versions. Before using the MySQL Installation Wizard to install MySQL, users of previous MySQL versions must manually close and Delete the existing MySQL device. Microsoft has included an improved version of Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) in the latest Windows release. MSI has become a de facto standard for applications on Windows 2003, Windows XP, and Windows Server. The MySQL Installation Wizard makes full use of this technology to provide a more stable and flexible installation process. The installer mechanism of Microsoft Windows is updated with the release of Windows XP. For versions earlier than Windows, refer to this Microsoft Knowledge Base article to obtain the latest version of the Windows Installer mechanism. At the same time, Microsoft has recently introduced the WiX (Windows Installer XML) toolkit. This is the first well-known open-source project from Microsoft. Since it is an open-source project, we have already transferred it to WiX, and it allows us to adopt a more flexible way to use scripts to handle the implementation of the entire Windows installation process. The improvement of the MySQL Installation Wizard depends on the support and feedback from users like you. If you think that the MySQL Installation Wizard lacks some important features or you find a bug, please use our MySQL Bug System to apply for features or report problems.

Changes made by the MySQL Installation Wizard
Once you click the "Install" button, the MySQL Installation Wizard will start the installation process and modify your system as follows:
Modify the Registry
In a typical installation scenario, the MySQL Installation Wizard generates a Windows Registration key, which is located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ MySQL AB .. When you install major Server versions such as MySQL Server 5.0, the MySQL Installation Wizard generates a name key after the installation is complete. The name key consists of two strings: The position string and the version string. The location string contains the installation path. By default, it contains C: \ Program Files \ MySQL Server 5.0 \.. The version string includes the release number. For example, for MySQL Server 5.0.13-rc installation, this key value contains the 5.0.13-rc value. The registered key value is used to assist external tools in identifying the installation path of the MySQL server, which can avoid full scan of the hard disk. The registration key value is not required to enable the Service. This registration key value is not generated when the noinstall Zip archive is used for installation.
Changes to the Start Menu
After the selected major MySQL installation version is installed, the MySQL Installation Wizard generates a new MySQL menu entry in the Windows Startup menu. For example, when you install MySQL 5.0, the MySQL Installation Wizard will generate MySQL Server part 5.0 in the Start Menu. The new menu includes the following content:
• MySQL command line Client: This is a mysql command line Client shortcut configured to connect to the root user at the same time. You need to enter the root user password during connection.
• MySQL service instant Configuration Wizard: this is a shortcut of the MySQL Configuration Wizard. You can use this shortcut to configure the latest Installation server or reconfigure an existing server.
• MySQL document: This is a link to the server document in the installation path of the MySQL server. This option is unavailable when the MySQL server is installed in a streamlined manner. Changes to the file system
By default, the MySQL Installation Wizard installs the MySQL service to C: \ Program Files \ MySQL Server 5.0. This is the default location of your system application, mySQL is also the main version of the MySQL server. This is a new recommended path for the MySQL server, instead of the previous default path c: \ mysql.
By default, all MySQL applications are stored in a common path C: \ Program Files \ MySQL, where Program Files is the default application location installed in Windows. On a developer's machine, a typical MySQL installation may be as follows:

C: \ Program Files \ MySQL Server 5.0C: \ Program Files \ MySQL Administrator 1.0C: \ Program Files \ MySQL Query Browser 1.0 this method makes it easier to manage and maintain all MySQL applications installed on a specific system.
