Typing errors are unavoidable when you enter a longer command. In this case, discarding the command you are entering will often be a better choice.

This is easy to do in the MySQL program: no matter where the cursor position, simply enter \c and then press the ENTER key to exit the current command line. However, if the cursor position is in the middle of a string that is already enclosed in single or double quotes,

\c is considered to be part of that string and does not have the effect of exiting the current command line.
