Pfsense is a FreeBSD-based, open source version that is specifically tailored for firewall and router functionality. It is installed on the computer as a firewall and router in the network, is known for its reliability, and offers features that often exist only in expensive commercial firewalls. It can be configured, upgraded and managed via a Web page without the need for users to have the FreeBSD bottom-up knowledge. Pfsense are typically deployed as border firewalls, routers, wireless access points, DHCP servers, DNS servers, and VPN endpoints.


The latest version is the 2.3 version.
