Close Microsoft®sql server™2000, and then run Rebuildm.exe. It is located in the Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn directory.


In the Rebuild Master dialog box, click the Browse button.


In the Browse for Folder dialog box, select the \data folder on the SQL Server 2000 CD or the shared network directory that is used to install SQL Server 2000, and then click OK.


Click the Settings button. In the Collation Settings dialog box, verify or change settings for the Master database or other databases.
Initially, the default collation settings are displayed, but these settings may not match the collation selected during installation. You can select the same settings as the collation used during installation, or you can select a new collation setting. When you are done, click OK.

Click the Rebuild button in the Rebuild Master dialog box to start the process.
Rebuild the Master utility to reinstall the master database.
