Previous: SCCM R2 installation Deployment process and issues (i)
In the previous article we have completed the preparation of the SCCM R2 installation, which has many details about the database preparation and permission settings that require special attention. Then we'll start installing SCCM R2.
SCCM employs a deployment architecture that is core to site and site roles. In different physical locations can deploy the site, a tree-like hierarchy, in this structure of the site has the main auxiliary points, there are also father and son points; You can deploy different servers within the same site, deploying different site roles for each server, such as management points, distribution points, software upgrade points, and other site roles. Its architecture is similar to that of a domain, broadly such as:

is a multi-site structure, but in most cases the single-site structure (only the largest one) can already be met, and one server can assume multiple site roles. Next we do a single site installation, because the site is also the primary site, the need for a database server, where a separate database server.
Ii. installation of SCCM R2
In the installation options, select Install Primary site (Primary site). It is important to note that if you plan to deploy multiple sites (that is, to build a tree-like hierarchy), you need to install the Central Administration site (centrally administration site) before you install the first primary site, and then install the first primary site into the Central Administration site. In addition, the secondary site, site server, and site roles are installed and managed in the SCCM management console, not in the installation wizard.

SCCM requires support for the following components and must be ticked.

Keep the files you need to download in the right place, and avoid the hassle of re-installing (and installing a failed reinstallation) and downloading again.

Set a site ID and site name that contains only 3 English characters or numbers.

If you plan to deploy a multi-site structure opt-in to the existing hierarchy, choose to install a stand-alone site if you deploy only a single site.

When connecting to a remote database, you need to open 1433, 135, 445, and 49155 ports in the remote database server, as described in the previous article.

Install SMS Provider for communication between SCCM and database.

Select the way the client clients to connect SCCM, and use HTTP without a certificate.

Here you choose to install the management point and the distribution Point site role on the site server, or you can install it on a different server.

At this point, the installation of SCCM is basically over, and if the pre-conditions are not met in the process and the installation fails, then the preconditions need to be re-installed.
Third, SCCM R2 console
The SCCM console (Configuration Manager console) is the basic tool for managing the SCCM hierarchy and for all the functionality of SCCM. The SCCM console is the part of C that is typical of the CS architecture software and is the GUI interface that connects SCCM services. Although like other Microsoft software, SCCM also provides support for PowerShell, but as a starter we use the SCCM console as the main tool.
Opening the SCCM R2 console, we found that, like other System Center components, SCCM's main course unit is in the lower left corner, which mainly includes:
Assets and Compliance: Manage devices or assets (servers, desktops, notebooks, handheld devices, etc.).
Software Libraray: Manage content that needs to be distributed or deployed, including application software, upgrade patches, and operating systems.
Monitoring: Monitor system status, deployment status, client status, distribution status, etc.
Administration: Configure the hierarchy of SCCM (Manage site boundaries, configure client discovery methods, and so on), manage sites, servers, and site roles, configure distribution points and set permissions, and more.
SCCM automates the management of Devices (Devices) by configuring discovery methods such as domain discovery, heartbeat discovery, and network Discovery to prepare the required application software, upgrade patches, operating systems (including drivers) for the device in the Software library (software Libraray), The content is then distributed to the server that is configured as the distribution point (distribution) site role. This content either waits for a request from the receiving device or is pushed to the device for installation.
For distribution of application software and upgrade patches (including upgrade patches for Windows products), the Agent software (SMS agent Host) needs to be installed on the distributed device for communication with the SCCM server, and software called Software Center is also installed. The software status that is distributed to the device can be viewed on the device by Software center, and the software can be manually installed or uninstalled as appropriate. Additionally, the distribution of the upgrade patches is based on the WSUS service (Windows Server Update Services), so that in addition to the need to configure one server in the site as the software upgrade point (software Update points) site role, You also need to install the WSUS server role on this server in advance, but you do not need to configure it.
The distribution of operating systems, and even the bare-metal shelves, is relatively more complex than software distribution. You need to prepare the PXE system image and the operating system image that needs to be installed on the target device, and if you need to install the application software and drivers synchronously, you will need to prepare additional application packages and driver packages. The PXE system image and the operating system image are distributed to the device that initiated the PXE request by deploying (deploy) The task sequence on the distribution point. Once the device is booted successfully with the PXE system, the installation and configuration of the operating system image is automatically based on the task sequence. The distribution of the operating system is based on the WDS service (Windows Deployment Services), and the WDS service is also a server role that you do not need to configure after you install it beforehand.
The above is a brief description of the functionality of SCCM so that you have a general idea and more details, which will be detailed in the next section.
