Six tips for using Lotus Notes

Currently, the People's Bank of China uses the Lotus Domino Mail System, which is a good group work platform with a good email system and leading full-text retrieval and replication functions. It also has strong security measures to ensure reliable information security, and has the advantages of convenient system management and simple use. I encountered some problems in the use process and gained some experience. The introduction is as follows for my colleagues' reference.

1. Install Lotus with multiple IDs on a computer

If multiple users use the same machine to send and receive their respective emails, you can use the following methods:

1. First, set the workplace: select a workplace other than the office space (because the office space is used by the first installation user by default)
(1) Basic page: change the location type to "Lan". The location name can be set by the user. This name will be displayed in the location list in the lower right corner.
(2) Server Page: enter your email server name for the host/email server.
(3) Port page: Select TCP/IP and lan0
(4) Mail page: Select "on server" as the mail file location; fill in the second user's mail file location (such as mail1aaa. NSF); fill in the company's network domain name for the Notes mail network domain; select "local first and server" for the recipient's name; select "via Domino server" for outgoing mail"

2. When you open your mailbox for the first time, the system requires you to enter the password of the user who used notes for the last time. If you enter the password for the current user, otherwise, click the "cancel" button in the password input window. In the displayed dialog box, select the ID file of the second user in the displayed dialog box. Enter the password to go to the welcome page, then, in the location list in the lower-right corner, select the workplace of the second user, and the mailbox will be opened. If you switch to a user in the Enabled state of notes, first switch the user ID, and then directly select the user's workplace in the places selection box in the lower right corner of Lotus. Note: The user's ID must be used together with his workplace; otherwise, emails cannot be forwarded.

2. Solution to server mail. Box file destruction

If the mailbox (mail. Box) on the sending and receiving server is damaged, run the fixup server.ProgramIf the problem persists, compress mail. box. If the problem persists, perform the following steps:

1. Disable the Lotus Domino service.
2. Rename the mail. Box file in the notesdata directory. For example, you can change it to mail_old.box.
3. Restart the Lotus Domino service. The server will automatically generate a new mail. Box file.
4. Copy the document that has not been destroyed from mail_old.box to the new mail. Box.

3. delete emails that have been sent

Sometimes, when sending emails to multiple users due to work errors, you can send them incorrectly. To delete emails sent to these users, contact the email administrator immediately, because all emails sent by the user must be placed in an outgoing mail. box, if the email is sent in mail. box is not sent, please ask the Administrator to send this mail. emails in the box are deleted directly (Note: when using this method, you must quickly contact the email administrator; otherwise, the email will be deleted from Mial. box), if the email has been sent from the mail. box, the administrator can only open all the mailboxes that receive this email on the server side, and delete them one by one. This method only deletes the user mailboxes in this order.

4. Set the mailbox size. An alarm is triggered when the mailbox size exceeds the upper limit.

Because the server's hard disk space is limited, and when the user's mailbox is too large, it will overload the server, in order to make more reasonable use of the Lotus Notes system, set the size of each user's mailbox to prevent unlimited database expansion. You can set the size of the user's mailbox using the following operations:

(1) Click the "file" menu, select "file", and select "server management ...", Select the server to be managed, click "database tools" on the right, and enter your password.
(2) Select "mail" from the database drop-down list, double-click the user's mailbox to be set, click the "Tools" drop-down list, and click "details ..." Click to view the current quota of the database.
(3) Select "quota", enter "500000" kb, select "exceeding" under "warning threshold", warn when "450000" KB is entered, and click "Update, if "56 databases have been processed and 0 errors exist" is displayed, the setting is successful. Of course, you can select multiple mailboxes in the database drop-down list, and then perform the above limit operation to limit multiple user mailboxes.

5. Move a Domino server to another server

Sometimes, to improve hardware performance, you need to move a Domino server to another new machine. The following methods can be used without affecting Domino users, move an existing Domino server to a new machine. The basic idea of this method is: Install the Domino server of the same version on the new machine, but do not configure it. Then, port the data directory And INI file from the old machine.
1. Back up the email system on the original server
Backing up the Domino System on the original server is quite necessary to prevent exceptions. The backup content includes: (1) all folders and files under the Domino system directory, that is, otes, (2) Lotus. ini and notes. ini files. This file may be in the Domino system directory. If the Domino system directory does not exist, it will be in the operating system directory. For example, if it is a Windows NT or Windows 2000 server operating system, is under the WINNT folder. (3) hosts file. This file is generally located in the winntsystem32driversetc folder. It is a plain text file that can be opened using common text editing software such as Notepad. It is used to map IP addresses and host names. For Lotus servers and some database servers, if you enter an IP address directly during access, it cannot be accessed, only the server name can be entered for access, so the hosts file is very important to Domino.

2. Install the operating system on the new server and configure the network

Install the operating system on the new server and configure the network at the same time. The IP addresses configured for the network must be the same as those of the original server (for operating system installation and network configuration, see related books ), in this case, the original server can be disconnected from the LAN. Copy the configuration hosts file to the WINNT system32driversetc folder on the new server.

3. Install the Domino System on the new server

Directly install the Domino System on the new server, and put the Domino System CD into the direct installation of the Domino server (the installation process is omitted here). Note that after the installation is complete, it is not configured.

4. Move backup data

Copy all the contents in the data directory otesdata In the Domino System Directory backed up in step 1 to the corresponding directory of the new server. INI and notes. the INI file must be copied to the corresponding directory. If the path of the data directory on the new machine is different from the old one, you need to modify it in the notes. INI file to define the location of the correct data directory on the new machine.

6. reconnect to the new mail server on a machine that has installed the Notes Client

First, you must use the new server to generate a new user ID file and delete the original ID file. In order not to reinstall notes on the client, you need to reset the client as follows:

(1) Find notes in the S directory or in the notes system directory. INI file, and then open the notes in the text editor. INI file, keep the first six lines of content in the file, delete all other contents, and save the notes. INI file and exit.
(2) Delete the desktop. DSK, log. nsf, and names. nsf files under the C: otesdata system directory.
(3) Start the notes program. The system will automatically execute the installation program and prompt you to use the new ID file. Then, you can use the new ID file for simple settings and then connect to the new server, you can create a new personal address book and group.
