We had to pay attention to the security issues of NetBIOS when the Protocol was very popular. This protocol is used in many fields. However, with the use of this protocol, we also found a lot of worrying issues. The first concern is the security of backdoors!
NetBIOS protocol troubles
NetBIOS refers to the network input and output system. In the history of computer network development, NetBIOS has a long history. As early as 1985, IBM began to use the NetBIOS protocol in the network field. Microsoft launched the first Windows-based network operating system-Windows For Workgroups For working groups, A NetBIOS version for Windows is used, that is, NetBEUI.
Microsoft chose NetBEUI as the basic protocol for network transmission because it occupies less system resources and has high transmission efficiency. It is especially suitable for a small LAN consisting of 20 to 200 computers.
In addition, NetBEUI has the biggest advantage: it can easily share the resources of individual machines in the network.
Later, with the rapid development of networks, computers around the world have been able to connect to each other through the Internet in the 20th century. With the rapid development of the Internet, TCP/IP has become a widely used transmission protocol.
Today, TCP/IP is a common protocol in the Internet field. Almost all computers connected to the Internet use TCP/IP. However, the NetBEUI protocol is also widely used in the LAN field. Therefore, when you install the TCP/IP protocol, NetBIOS is also loaded into your computer by Windows as the default setting, the computer immediately became open to NetBIOS itself. In other words, your computer has been opened with a dangerous "backdoor ".
The openness of the NetBIOS protocol means that your hard disk may become shared in the network. If you are traveling around the Internet, they can learn everything on your computer through NetBIOS!
Remove Security Risks of NetBIOS protocol
1. If you are using the earliest version of Windows 95, it is very easy to disable NetBIOS: Find the file named Vnbt.386 in the system and rename it, for example, change to Vnbt. out.
2. If you are using Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, or Windows ME, it will be a little troublesome. First, open the control panel and enter the "network" dialog window. In the configuration table, check whether the NetBEUI component exists in the list. If yes, skip the next section.
3. If no NetBEUI component exists in the list, click "add" and select "protocol" in the "Network component type to be installed" list, click "add" again. In the "Network Protocol" dialog box, select Microsoft's NetBEUI, insert the Windows installation disk, and click "OK.
4. Return to the "network" dialog box, select "dial-up adapter" in the network components, click "properties", and select "bind" in the "properties" dialog box, clear the check boxes of other protocols except TCP/IP.
5. Finally, return to the "network" dialog box, select the TCP/IP protocol, and click "properties". A warning window may pop up, so ignore it, click "OK" to enter the "properties" Window of TCP/IP, select "bind", and remove the small check boxes in the check boxes of all network protocols, click "OK". In Windows, you will be prompted to select at least one protocol, and you will still ignore it. Click "No" to close the window. Restart your computer so that the NetBIOS protocol backdoor in your computer is disabled.
