A software-defined data center is a data management method that abstracts computing, storage, and network resources through virtualization and provides them as services. To facilitate this process, SDDC includes smart software to centrally manage virtualized resources, automate operations and allocate workflows.

The software-defined data center architecture can be divided into three logical layers: physical layer, virtualization layer, and management layer. These layers provide a unified system, providing enterprises with higher management flexibility and more cost-effective operation modes than traditional technologies.

Physical Layer

The physical layer of the software-defined data center architecture includes computing, storage, and network components to support SDDC for storing and processing enterprise data. These components can be made up of commercial hardware from different vendors, which can help enterprises reduce costs and avoid vendor locks, but this flexibility may make the implementation of SDDC more complex.

Virtualization Layer

Virtualization is the key to software-defined data centers. The virtualization layer includes software that abstracts underlying resources and uses them as integrated services. The core of the virtualization layer is the Management Program, which provides resources as virtualization components.

Based on proven server virtualization practices, computing virtualization separates processing and memory resources from physical servers. Storage Virtualization is not as long as server virtualization, but similar in concept. Storage Virtualization abstracts underlying physical devices and provides available storage as a logical resource pool. Applications do not need to care about the type, quantity, and size of storage devices. Similar to software-defined storage, Storage Virtualization abstracts the details of underlying hardware, so that each application can provide the required storage resources without affecting other applications.

Network virtualization is a relatively new virtualization technology, but like server virtualization, it separates available resources from the underlying hardware, classify physical bandwidth into independent channels that IT administrators can allocate or reassign to specific workloads in real time. To achieve this goal, the virtual network provides a flexible network service pool for on-demand allocation to achieve more flexible and fast configuration.

Management Layer

Virtualization of material resources is only part of the software-defined data center architecture. The infrastructure also includes a management layer that can achieve orchestration and automated operation. The management layer links your U-type resources into a unified SDDC, allocates these resources to specific workloads, and re-allocates these resources as needed.

Intelligent Software provides an architecture to centrally manage and monitor SDDC infrastructure and its workload. It can manage virtual resource la S, automatically optimize resource allocation, and perform many other tasks. The Administrator has a single interface to access and control the Virtual Layer and its supporting components.

Management includes monitoring, alerting, and scheduling functions so that administrators can monitor operations, maintain performance, and perform advanced analysis. In addition, this layer is integrated with the built-in security and data protection mechanisms in the software-defined data center architecture.

The management layer also provides business logic to convert application requirements and requests into API commands that execute orchestration and automated operations. APIs enable management and virtualization software to configure and manage resources, it also resolves policy implementation and service level agreements.
