The difference between dynamic and static routing

Static routing

Static routing is a manual configuration of routing information by a network administrator. When the topology of the network or the state of the link changes, the network administrator needs to manually modify the related static routing information in the routing table. Static routing information is private by default and is not passed to other routers.

Of course, network administrators can also be set up by the router to make it shared. Static routing is generally applicable to simpler network environments in which the network administrator can easily understand the topology of the network and set the correct routing information.

Dynamic routing

Dynamic routing refers to the ability of routers to automatically establish their own routing tables and adjust them in a timely manner according to the actual situation.

The operation of the dynamic routing mechanism relies on the two basic functions of the Router: the maintenance of the routing table and the timely routing information exchange between routers.
