I have not been able to understand the meaning of these two words, especially when the Linux software management, with the update and upgrade has not been understood, and then finally found out:

Upgrade generally refers to the more important upgrade, or the main, individual version of the upgrade, where the software changes very large, such as from Windows XP system upgrade to Windows 7 system;

Update generally refers to minor upgrades or updates, software changes that are small or just bug fixes, for example, from Windows 7 System update to windows® 7 SP1.

Upgrade generally refers to changes in quality, while update generally refers to changes in volume.
