The scroll event in JavaScript

Window.addeventlistener (' scroll ',function() {    if(Document.compatmode = = " Css1compat ") {        alert (document.documentElement.scrollTop);     Else {        alert (DOCUMENT.BODY.SCROLLTOP);    }},false);

Although the scroll event occurs on a Window object, its event represents a change in the corresponding element in the page. In promiscuous mode, this change can be monitored by the scrollleft and scrolltop of the <body> elements, and in standard mode all browsers except Safari pass through

The event handlers specified in the code above output the vertical scrolling position of the page-different elements are used depending on the rendering mode. Because the previous version of Safari3.1 does not support Document.compatmode, the old version satisfies the second condition.
