Thumbs.db is a file for thumbnails of Microsoft Windows XP or Mac OS X cache Windows Explorer. Thumbs.db is saved in each directory that contains pictures or photos. Windows XP Media Center Edition version generates a preview of a ehthumbs.db hold saved video file.

*.db files are SQLite database files that are used in applications to save common settings.

Thumbs.db files can be cached in the format of the image files include: Jpeg, bmp, gif, tif, pdf and HTM. The Thumbs.db file is a database that contains thumbnails of all image files (in JPEG format) in this directory. When viewed as thumbnails (showing a picture or movie film), a Thumbs.db file is generated. Thumbs.db is by no means a virus, but a database file that can generally be found in a folder with pictures, and its volume increases as the number of pictures in the folder increases.

Thumbs.db is the cache that Windows xp/2003 creates for image files in the current folder in order to increase the speed of the folder's response to the thumbnail view, which is not in itself a hindrance because it is a "system file + Hidden file", which is not normally displayed ( Unless you have it set up in your computer's view. But sometimes it is very troublesome, even can bring a certain security risk to the Web site.

Like when you upload digital photos of your computer, in view, delete one of the "SSA2501", and then the "SSA2502" changed to "SSA2501", see, "SSA2502" photos immediately replaced the "SSA2501" of the photos, not only the name changed, the photos have changed. If the "SSA2503" name is renamed "SSA2502", the miracle happened, the original "SSA2502" photos came back, "SSA2503" photos are gone!

Is it poisoned? It turns out that Windows XP will automatically save the picture thumbnail in the folder as the index file "Thumbs.db" in order to display the picture more quickly. We will not use the picture deleted, because "thumbs.db" can not be automatically updated immediately, when the new file and the original file name is the same as the original thumbnail will be directly taken out, in fact, the picture itself has not changed, only change the thumbnail image. But this makes the user misleading! A more serious consequence is if a Web site creator sets the display system files and hidden files in Windows folder Options, he made or collected a large number of images to a directory during the production of the site, and previewed the catalog in thumbnails, and then he uploaded the entire directory or all the files to the server , I accidentally sent this thumbs.db also to go up, because there are tools to view the content of thumbs.db, or even export the image, so that the directory to open the browsing permissions. Users can get all the file names and abbreviations in this folder by Thumbs.db, and then use the Thumbs.db browser to download all the image files in this directory and browse, at worst, let others find that the thumbnail also has unhealthy content.
