Considering the popularity of the XP system, it is wise for Twitter to give up IE6 and IE7.
According to foreign media reports, Twitter announced on Friday that Twitter for Websites ("TFW") will no longer support IE6 and IE7 browsers from May 13. Although Twitter will continue to develop, it does not guarantee that some features will run in Microsoft's browsers of the above two versions.
According to the report, TFW requires developers and publishers to embed some Twitter conversations into applications and websites. According to Twitter, the new browser technology makes code writing easier and faster, consuming less resources. The old browser technology cannot meet the development requirements.
Twitter details how TFW will run after May 13.
First, the Tweet button, Follow button, embedded Twitter message, and Twitter timeline will no longer support IE6. The script detects that unsupported browsers exit automatically, but messages from embedded code are retained.
Second, Twitter defines the factory function for creating a small plug-in, but returns an error value for any callback function in IE6. Various plug-ins will still be displayed in IE7, but the browser's support functions are limited, and the functions added in the future will not run.
Finally, website content events, that is, frameworks that allow developers to respond to user interactions, do not support IE6 or IE7.
Twitter stressed that both browsers require a large amount of code support to send messages. Deleting the browser will reduce the amount of code and improve the reliability. Although IE6 and IE7 are no longer supported, the Tweet link can still help users share pages in these two browsers, while the Follow link will still point to the personal pages of other users, the embedded timeline code will still be linked to the Twitter website, which can be retained for technical reasons.
It is reported that Twitter will continue to support IE8. Considering the popularity of the XP system, it is wise for Twitter to give up IE6 and IE7.
