Use History paint brush

We have been familiar with the history record function of Photoshop for a long time and know that the history record is linear. Changing the previous history will delete the subsequent records. In other words, we cannot modify the operations we have performed in the previous history while retaining the existing results. However, there is a tool that can directly erase the effect of one operation in history based on the existing effect without returning the history record. This is the history paint tool.

This tool is different from other tools in terms of concept, but it is not difficult to understand the process. First, we open an image, which is a picture of Yuanbao chocolate. The left figure is shown below, and the History board is called up. The image is reversed, de-colored, and tone homogenized in sequence. The effect is shown in the figure below, and the history of the three steps is also listed in the history record palette. See the following picture on the right.

 

 

The subsequent operations can be called the removal of historical records. Since there are many steps in the history record, you must specify a step before removing it as the historical object that is "erased to this step. We want to restore the lucky character of the diamond to the state when it is turned on, that is, we have never experienced the three steps of reversed, de-colored, and tone homogenization. Select the history paint brush on the toolbar, and then click "open" in the history palette. The elimination box on the left is shown as follows.

Where the flag is located. In this way, the historical object "erase to this step" is specified. Then, use the history paint brush to smear the area to be restored in the image. Then you can see that the area is restored to the status when it is turned on, as shown in the following figure. The erased operation is also appended to the history, as shown in the right figure below. If the smear effect is not completed in one step, multiple operations will be recorded in the history.

 

 

In this way, place the elimination indicator box in the "reverse" step, and then smear the area to restore to the state after the reverse phase. The left and center charts are as follows. Of course, there will be one or more steps to use the history paint in the historical record. Note that the smear operation will overwrite the previous wiping effect, so you should avoid those areas. You can then place the elimination indicator to "open" and then smear the two text areas. As shown in the right figure below, you can zoom in the image by pressing the space CTRL and then apply it with a smaller brush.

 

 

Recall the blue watermelon we made in the previous part of this lesson. After the completion, we found that the bottom of the white square pot containing honey had a blue effect, as shown in the figure below. It is too troublesome to return redo if the operation is completely undone. In this case, you can use the history paint brush, set the elimination indicator in the history palette (one step before changing the color), and then smear it at the bottom of the white pot. Here we will not do any demonstration.

It should be noted that the history paint brush settings are exactly the same as those we have learned in course #04. In addition to the default circular paint, you can also use various shapes and special effects. You can also set various paint brush parameters in the public bar on the top. The shortcut keys for changing the brush size and soft hardness are the same. As we have said before, the brush is not only for a certain tool, but also a global setting. In the future, many tools will use the paint brush.

It is also an operation to erase history, but it also adds many special effects. You can set the style and other parameters in the public bar at the top.
In general, there are not many chances to use the history paint brush in actual use. Because it is a tool for arbitrary painting, it is difficult to have a regular painting effect (if you want to adjust the painting effect, it is best to create a constituency in advance ). However, it provides a brand new creative way of thinking, which can create some unique effects. In terms of the nature of a tool, it is more inclined to be a modified tool than a creative tool.
