VI Common Commands

Syntax: VI [options] [+n] file Name list ...

Common options

-R for recovering files that are being edited when the system suddenly crashes

-R for opening files as read-only

The +n is used to indicate that the nth row of the file is directly after entering VI, and if n is not specified, the last row

Under command line, type

$ VI

Access to VI's editing interface

Using the colon command to enter the last line mode, type

: E show.txt (e = edit)

Or, at the same time you start VI, type

$ VI show.txt

You can open the file for editing.

Basic editing commands

1. Basic cursor Movement

k ↑

H J L equivalent to ←↓→ direction key

H moves one character to the left, equivalent to BACKSPACE, LEFT ARROW key

J Move down one line, equivalent to enter, DOWN arrow

K Move the cursor up one line, UP ARROW key

L Move right one character, equivalent to space, RIGHT ARROW key

Ctrl+f page DOWN, equivalent to PageDown

Ctrl+b page UP, equivalent to PageUp
