What if the ghost speed is too slow?

My friend bought a computer equipped with four nuclear 2.40GHz processor, 2GB memory, but found that using Ghost Backup/Restore system is very slow, only 160mb~180mb per minute, which is obviously not normal.

The reason of affecting ghost speed

As we know, there are several reasons that affect backup/restore speeds:

1. Choose different compression ratios when backing up, there will be different backup restore speed.

When you use Ghost to do a mirrored file, there are three options: fast, Normal, high, respectively, refers to three kinds of compression ratio mode. Select Fast is a lower compression ratio, made out of the mirror file is relatively large, but the speed is very fast, select High is a higher compression ratio, made out of the mirror file smaller, you can save a lot of space, but the speed is very slow. Then in the restore time, that is, when the decompression is also the case.

2. The BIOS in the motherboard on how to work with the disk settings.

How the disk works can also have a significant impact on the speed of the backup/restore system.

Solving method

For the above points, the following options can be adopted:

1. Now the hard disk capacity is relatively large, if the hard disk space is not particularly tense, it is recommended to choose Low Compression (fast mode), so that the backup restore speed quickly. Here I chose the fast mode.

2. Optimize the settings in the motherboard BIOS. At startup, press the DEL key (or the F2 key, the BIOS is different) to enter the BIOS settings, select Integrated Peripherals (the options for managing motherboard integration devices and ports), and then select Onchip IDE Device (IDE devices, Mainly includes hard disk and optical drive devices, then you can see: IDE HDD block mode (IDE hard disk blocks modes), set values are: Disabled (disabled) and enabled (open).

Here the author chooses enabled, which allows the hard disk to transmit data using fast block mode. Once turned on, you can speed up backup/restore.

After the above adjustment, Friend's computer with Ghost backup/restore speed finally broke through 1gb/min, this is a relatively normal speed.
