Will the value be typed when referencing the method?

Can I use the value of the reference method?
This is a source of tpl::output (' Brand_list ', $brand _list);
Now I want to print it out to see what's inside it, and I don't know what the political reform is.
I tried that.
$tpl =tpl::output (' brand_list ', $brand _list);
Echo $tpl;
or Print_r ($TPL);
But none of them, I don't know why.
------to solve the idea----------------------
Tpl::output is a template engine rendering function, after executing this method, the PHP method has been dropped, you can take a good look at its template engine inside the output method.
You print after the output is not out, because the program has jumped out of the execution is no longer, what to print, go to the output method to print.
------to solve the idea----------------------
This method does not include return returned to print
