Although the wireless network setting function of Windows XP itself cannot be compared with the dedicated configuration software, it can fully meet the requirements for daily wireless network usage and is widely used.
Wireless Network Properties
After the wireless network connection is established, a "wireless network connection" icon appears in "network connection. Right-click the icon and select "properties" to open the Properties dialog box. Go to the "wireless network configuration" tab (figure 1). The network configuration function provided by Windows XP is "hidden" here.
"Wake up" configuration
Many users will find that after professional wireless network configuration software is installed, double-click the wireless connection icon in the system tray to automatically enable professional configuration software installed. So how can we allow Windows to "take over" the wireless network configuration right? You can activate the wireless network configuration function of Windows XP by checking the "configure my wireless network settings with Windows" check box on the "wireless network configuration" tab.
View Wireless Networks
How can we know the situation of wireless networks in the region? How can I disconnect or connect to a wireless network? The wireless network card does not tell us, but we can click the "view wireless network" button. In the pop-up "wireless network connection" window, the right side is the available wireless network that the wireless network card detects in the region, from which we can obtain information such as network encryption, wireless network name, connection status, and signal strength (figure 2 ).
Tip: If no network is available, click "Refresh Network List" on the left of the window several times ".
Select an available wireless network and click "Connect" to connect. If encryption is performed, enter the connection password of the network in the key box.
View wireless connection Properties
After detecting a wireless network connection through the above method, the available network is displayed in the list box in the "preferred network" column. To obtain specific information about a connection, you only need to select the connection and click "properties" to enter the Properties dialog box. If you need a key for connection, you can enter the corresponding key in "Network key" (Figure 3 ).
Set the network connection type
We know that a wireless network connection can be a basic network, that is, a wireless network adapter can be connected to an AP or a wireless router, or a peering connection, that is, a computer to a computer.
If you do not want your wireless network adapter to use the peering mode, you can click the "advanced" button on the page shown in Figure 1, in the open "advanced" dialog box, select "Access Point (structure) network only ". Other computers cannot connect to our computers wirelessly.
