BIOS Setup Parameter modification

Memory in the computer's importance and position second only to the CPU, the quality of its advantages and disadvantages of computer performance has a vital impact. In order to maximize the potential of memory, you must adjust the memory-related parameters in the BIOS setup, this article mainly introduces the parameters of the commonly used BIOS settings.

 1. SDRAM Ras-to-cas Delay (delay time of memory line address transmission to column address)

Available options: 2, 3.

This parameter can control the delay between the SDRAM line address-selective pulse (Ras,row address strobe) signal and the row-pass-through pulse signal. When the SDRAM is read, written, or refreshed, it is necessary to insert a delay clock period between the two pulse signals. This parameter can be set to 2 for optimal performance, and can be set to 3 if the system does not run stably.

 2, SDRAM RAS precharge Time (memory row address selective pulse pre-charging times)

Available options: 2, 3.

This parameter controls the number of clock cycles required for the line address selection pulse pre charging before the SDRAM refresh operation. Setting the pre charging time to 2 can improve the performance of SDRAM, but if the 2 clock cycle of the pre-charging time is insufficient, the SDRAM will not be able to complete the refresh operation after the normal data can not be maintained.

  3, Memory Hole at 15m-16m (in the memory reserved area of 15m~16m)

Optional: disabled,enabled.

The normal operation of some special ISA expansion cards requires the use of memory areas located in 15m~16m, which is set to Enabled to retain the memory area for use by such ISA expansion cards. Since the ISA expansion slot is no longer supported by the PC ' 99 specification, the new motherboard typically does not have an Isa slot and should therefore be set to disabled.

 4. System Memory Frequency (Memory frequency)

Available options: AUTO, 100MHz, 133MHz.

This setting implements the memory asynchronous run management function. Auto: Automatically set the working frequency of memory according to the characteristic of memory; 100MHz: Force the memory to work at 100MHz frequency; 133MHz: Force the memory to work at the 133MHz frequency.

5, Memory PARITY/ECC check (memory parity/ECC check)

Optional: disabled,enabled.

If the system uses ECC memory, you can set this parameter to Enabled, or you must set the parameter to Disabled. ECC represents error check and correction (Error Checking and correction)  is generally the function of high-end server memory, which has the memory particles to achieve ECC function, so that the system can detect and correct a data error in memory or detect two-bit data errors. ECC can improve data integrity and system stability, which is especially important for servers, but ECC can cause certain performance losses.

 6, set SDRAM Timing by SPD (according to SPD to determine memory timing)

Optional: disabled,enabled.

The SPD (serial Presence detect) is a small chip on the memory strip that stores the work parameter information for the memory bar. If you use premium brand memory, you can set the DRAM Timing by SPD to Enabled, and you do not need to set the BIOS memory parameters described below, and the system automatically determines the running parameters of the memory according to the data in the SPD. Some compatible memory of the SPD is empty  or feel some brand memory SPD parameter is more conservative, want to fully explore its potential, you can set this parameter to Disabled, at this time, the following memory parameters can be adjusted.
