The Windows Update cleanup option is available only when the Disk Cleanup Wizard detects some Windows updates that you do not need on your computer.
To enable you to restore the system to a previous update, the updates are stored in the WinSxS store, even if they are superseded by newer versions of the update. Therefore, after you run the Disk Cleanup Wizard, you may not be able to roll back to updates that have been superseded. If you want the system to be restored to the Disk Cleanup Wizard to remove superseded updates, you can install the update manually.
Feature Update published Windows 7 SP1 October at 2013, and no revisions for Windows 7 pack.
After you install this update, follow these steps to clean up the Windows update files.
Note: You must have administrator privileges to perform this operation.
Start the Disk Cleanup Wizard. To perform this action, use one of the following methods:
Method 1: Click Start, type cleanmgr in the Start search box, and then click OK.
Method 2: Click Start, click All Programs, click Attachments, click System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.
Method 3: When low disk space notifications appear, click Notify to open the Disk Cleanup Wizard.
Select the Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 system Drive, and then click OK.
Note: This can take a few seconds because the Disk Cleanup Wizard search clears the files on the drive.
If the Windows update cleanup option does not appear on the Disk Cleanup tab, click the purged system file. If the Windows Update cleanup option appears on the Disk Cleanup tab, go to step 5.
Note: The Windows update cleanup option is available only if you are logged on with administrator privileges.
Select the Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 system Drive, and then click OK.
On the Disk Cleanup tab, select Windows Update Cleanup, and then click OK.
Note: By default, the Windows Update cleanup option is selected.
When a dialog box appears, click Delete File.
Note
Run the Disk Cleanup Wizard in the background.
You may need to restart your computer to complete the cleanup process.
