Collection of frequently used glossary in Network Administrator backup and recovery

Administrator: Administrator, who is authorized to configure, install, and manage VERITAS NetBackup software.

Manipulator: Robotic, which is used to perform complex mechanical tasks that are usually assigned to the NetBackup user, such as selecting a removable medium and loading it to a level 2 storage device.

Secondary Storage: Secondary Storage, Secondary Storage connected to Storage servers that are backed up or archived for independent Storage.

Secure Client: Secure Client, which does not need the Client entered in the/. rhosts file of the server.

Single Volume Device: Single Volume Device. manual intervention is required to modify the physical storage Device of the Volume.

Independent Device: Standalone Device. manual intervention is required to modify the physical storage Device of the volume.

Storage Media: Storage Media, which can store any object of data, such as tapes, cartridges, disks, and CDs.

Storage Unit: Storage Unit, the logical entity used by VERITAS NetBackup software, including one or more Storage devices that belong to a special type or media density and are attached to a specific host.

Real Image Restoration (HDL): True Image Restore. Only files in the directory that exist on a specific backup date and time are restored. The files deleted previously are ignored.

Trusted Client: Trusting Client, a Client with a/. rhosts file entry (for use by the server.

User: User, who operates the client workstation.
