There are two ways to configure a CISCO router. One is to configure a port through a CISCO router using a microcomputer or terminal, and the other is to configure the port through a Telnet command, however, the second method requires that you have correctly configured the IP addresses of each router interface. The first method is more universal. This method is used to explain the configuration process:

Step 1: 1. Establish a local configuration environment by connecting the serial port of the microcomputer or terminal to the configuration port of the router through the standard RS232 cable. If a remote configuration environment is established, 2 shows that, you need to mount the Modem on the microcomputer serial port and the router configuration port respectively. Then, connect by dialing.

Step 2: Prepare a personal computer with the Windows 95/98 operating system installed;
Step 3: Use the random Configuration Port cable to connect the serial port 1 of the PC to the Console port of CISCO, and then turn on the power of the PC and CISCO.
Step 4: Use a PC to create a super terminal. Start → program → attachment → communication → Super Terminal. Double-click the hypertrm.exe file with the mouse, enter the name of the Super Terminal to be created, select an icon, select the "connect directly to serial 1" option, set the communication port to set the terminal communication parameters: communication Rate: 9600bps, 8-Bit Data bit, 1-bit stop bit, no parity check, no traffic control; terminal simulation on Windows 3x: terminal type: VT100, the binary transmission protocol is Xmodem/CRC, 3 ).

After clicking OK, the PC terminal is correctly connected to the CISCO router. The connection instance is as follows:

Start the Super Terminal, set the name to CISCO, and then select an icon 4)-> select the appropriate connection port, select the serial port for local configuration, and select Modem for remote configuration. 5)-> select 9600bps6 as the baud rate)-> Save the settings in the CISCO file and start the configuration from the Super Terminal CISCO next time.

Step 6: If the vro is powered on for the first time, the system automatically runs the Setup command to notify the user to configure the required parameters for the vro to start. Otherwise, the vro self-check information is displayed, after self-check, you are prompted to press enter until a command line prompt is displayed.

Step 7: enter a command to configure the vro or view the running status of the vro. You can enter "? ".
