Creating an IPv6 network environment cannot be achieved overnight

With the gradual evolution of the network, the surge in the number of users puts pressure on the network. The first problem to be solved is the shortage of Address resources. Now we have proposed the deployment of the IPv6 network environment, but the excessive problem is still the key to our solution. Now let's take a look at this issue.

To cope with this crisis, IPv6 technology is widely regarded as the most effective solution 。

Protocol conversion is required to enable multicast communication between an IPv4 host and an IPv6 host) the technical solution can achieve intercommunication between IPv4 and IPv6 networks. The MTG is deployed at the boundary of the IPv4 and IPv6 network environments, the IPv4 and IPv6 networks are regarded as two heterogeneous networks with equal status. an IPv6 host can be added to a multicast group with an IPv4 source, an IPv4 host can also be added to the multicast group where the multicast source is located in the IPv6 network. In IPv4, MTG acts as the IPv6 proxy and participates in IPv4 multicast. Similarly, in IPv6, MTG acts as the proxy for IPv4. In the MTG system, protocol conversion is performed between two proxies 。

In the next generation Internet, it has been determined that IPv6 must support multicast and arrange a large number of multicast address spaces. Although IPv6 nodes will become more and more pure IPv6, however, many IPv4 nodes continue to exist because of their successful operation. Therefore, IPv6 cannot replace all IPv4 nodes in the short term, the two will inevitably coexist for a long period of time. In this long period of coexistence, according to the IPv6 deployment policy, the pure IPv6 network will appear globally, A pure IPv4 network and a pure IPv6 network will coexist and interlace each other 。

Therefore, there must be a mechanism to ensure direct communication between IPv4 and IPv6 nodes for smooth transition. Currently, many transition technologies have been proposed, but they are only applicable to unicast communication, it is not suitable for multicast communication. Although the transition technology of multicast communication has not yet become the focus of people's research work, as a very practical application of the research direction, more and more organizations and groups are paying attention to this issue.

The evolution from IPv4 to IPv6 is a long-term complex process, so it is impossible to achieve it overnight in the short term, at present, there are two main types of solutions: Pure IP network evolution solution and MPLS network evolution solution. Pure IP network solution refers to the basic process of using IP networks as the bearer upper-layer services at the backbone, Metro, and access layers. means; MPLS network evolution scheme refers to the use of MPLS as the basic means to carry upper-layer services 。

◆ Pure IP network evolution scheme. When an existing IP network is presented to IPv6, the backbone network can be upgraded using the dual-stack approach. The dual-stack approach can ensure that the original IPv4 service and terminal are not affected, services and terminals that adopt dual-stack or pure IPv6 are gradually introduced. The original IPv4 service platform and the service platform and terminal in the IPv6 network environment can communicate with each other through address translation/ ing devices 。 when the original IPv4 service platform and terminal gradually transition to IPv6, it can still maintain normal business development and use 。

In this solution, IPv4 terminals and business platforms can adopt IPv4 communication directly, IPv6 communication can be directly used between IPv6 terminals and business platforms, IPv4 terminals and business platforms, address Translation/ ing should be performed between IPv6 terminals and business platforms, and the converted address information should be transmitted in the network through the routing control layer before intercommunication can be realized 。

◆ MPLS network evolution scheme. The existing IP network can also gradually transition to IPv6 by deploying MPLS technology. For IP networks without MPLS deployment, the MPLS protocol can be enabled across the network, the dual-stack protocol is deployed on the edge of the network, and the IPv6 network protocol is interconnected through 6PE and 6vPE, the original IPv4 can still be used to communicate with each other through RawIP. the intercommunication between IPv6 and IPv4 needs to go through address translation/ ing and transmit the corresponding address to the IPv4 domain or MPLS domain 。

For IP networks that have deployed MPLS, you can deploy the dual-stack protocol on the edge of the network, and use 6PE and 6vPE to achieve interconnection between IPv4 and IPv6 respectively. Address Translation/ ing is deployed on the edge of the network, and upload the corresponding addresses to the other domain 。

In this solution, groups in the IPv6 network environment are encapsulated in the MPLSLSP for transmission to achieve IPv6 networking and ensure the normal use of the original IPv4 service 。

However, the MPLS technology is complex, the number of users and resources in the broadband Internet is large, the access relationship is complex, and the network structure and equipment are complex. Therefore, currently, multiple operators choose the "dual-stack Backbone Network" solution as the evolution goal 。
