DHCP database operations

We have learned a lot about DHCP. Here we will mainly explain the content of the DHCP database. How can I import and export a DHCP database? Next, let's take a look at the specific operations. Run Microsoft Windows Server 2003 to import and export the DHCP database:

Move the DHCP database and configuration from the Server running Windows Server 2003 to another Server running Windows Server 2003: 1. log on to the source DHCP Server using an account with a member of the local Administrators Group.

2. Click Start and run, Type cmd in the open box, and click OK ".

3. Type netsh dhcp server export C: \ dhcp.txt all, and then press Enter.

Note: You must have local administrator permissions to export data.

Install the DHCP Server service on a Server running Windows Server 2003

Install DHCP Server Service on an existing Windows Server 2003-based Server: 1. Click Start, click control panel, and then double-click add or delete programs ".

2. Click "Add/delete Windows Components ".

3. In the "Windows component wizard", click "Network Service" in the "components" box, and then click "details ".

4. If the "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)" check box is not selected, click this check box, select it, and click "OK ".

5. In the Windows component wizard, click Next to install the selected component. Insert Windows Server 2003 CD to your computer's CD drive or DVD drive (if prompted ). The installer copies the DHCP server and tool files to the computer.

6. After the installation is complete, click "finish ".

Import DHCP Database

Note: If you are not a member of the Backup Operators group, you may receive an "access denied" message during this process. If you receive the "Unable to determine the DHCP server version for server" error message, make sure that the DHCP server service is running on the server and the logged-on user is a member of the local administrator group.

Important: Do not use Dhcpexim.exe to import DHCP databases in Windows Server 2003. In addition, if the target Windows 2003 Server is a Member Server and you plan to upgrade it to a domain controller, we recommend that you first perform a DHCP database migration before upgrading it to a domain controller. Although you can migrate a DHCP database to a Windows 2003 domain controller, it is easier to migrate it to a Member Server because a local administrator account exists. 1. Log On As an explicit member of the local Administrators Group. User Accounts in the group that are members of the local Administrators Group do not work. If the local Administrators account for the domain controller does not exist, restart the computer in Directory Service Restore Mode and import the database using the Administrator account as described later in this section.

2. Copy the exported DHCP database file to the local hard disk of a Computer Based on Windows Server 2003.

3. Verify that the DHCP service is enabled on a Windows Server 2003-based computer.

4. Click Start and run, Type cmd in the open box, and click OK ".

5. at the command prompt, Type netsh dhcp server import c: \ dhcpdatabase.txt all, and then press Enter. c: \ dhcpdatabase.txt is the complete path and file name of the database file you copied to the server.

Note: When you try to export a DHCP database from a Windows 2000 Domain Controller to a Windows Server 2003 Member Server in this domain, you may receive the following error message:

Error initializing and reading the service configuration-Access Denied

Note: You must have local administrator permissions to import data.

6. To solve this problem, add the Windows Server 2003 DHCP Server computer to the enterprise level of the DHCP Admins group.

7. if the "access is denied" error message still appears after you add the Windows Server 2003 DCHP Server computer to the "Enterprise" level of the DHCP Admins group as described in Step 4, verify that the user account currently used for import belongs to the local administrator group. If the account does not belong to this group, add the account to the Administrator group or log on as the local administrator to complete the import.

Note: If the dhcp import or EXPORT command fails for a user who is not an explicit member of the local Administrators group, you must apply the following repair program on a Windows Server 2003-based computer:

The 833167 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833167/) Windows Server 2003 shadow replication service (VSS) update package is now available

8. After you receive the message that the command is successfully completed, exit the command prompt.

Authorize DHCP server

1. Click Start, point to all programs, point to administrative tools, and then click DHCP ".

Note: You must use an account with members of the Administrators group to log on to this server. In the Active Directory domain, you must use an account that is a member of the Enterprise Administrators Group to log on to the server.

2. In the console tree of the DHCP Management Unit, expand the new DHCP server. If there is a red arrow in the lower-right corner of the server object, it indicates that the server has not been authorized.

3. Right-click the Server Object and click "authorize ".

4. After a while, right-click the server again and click "refresh ". The green arrow indicates that the DHCP server has been authorized.
