The Ubuntu configuration editor looks like a Windows Registry Editor. In the tree structure on the left, find the/apps/nautilus/desktop/branch, remove the check box before volumes_visible, and check the check boxes before trash_icon_visible, home_icon_visible, and computer_icon_visible.
