The free VMware ESXi5.5 is very powerful, often encountering such problems using ESXi, I need to build multiple virtual machines, all windows2008 operating systems, one installation of the system is very troublesome.

VMware ESXi, VMware vCenter Server, and vsphere Client, respectively, are the Vsphere virtualization layer, management layer, and interface layer. The vsphere client client as the interface layer does not provide the ability to clone virtual machines, which is required to install Vcenter management ESXi. Nevertheless, we can do it manually.

Here is the procedure for cloning the virtual machine "windows2008":

1. Go to vsphere client and close the virtual machine that needs to be cloned windows2008

4, after the copy is complete, right-click on the bscrm-117.vmx file, select "Add to Manifest", pop-up prompt.

5. Enter the name of the virtual machine, such as bscrm118.

6. Back to vsphere client, right click on virtual machine selection-power-"power on, click Summary,

Ask if this virtual machine is mobile or copy, select "I coyied it", OK.

7. Manual cloning is complete. The cloned virtual machine is identically configured with the source virtual machine environment, including the IP address, username password, etc., which need to be changed manually.

This is a clone operation under the same ESXi server, what if cloning is done between different ESXi servers? Then you need to copy the files to a different ESXi server. Search on the Internet, copy of the method has said to use mobile storage devices, there is said to use FTP, but I think the SCP command most convenient. Here's my migration process:

1, SSH to the ESXi server, the first need to find the source virtual machine files, the path is very strange, you can use Df-h to see the file system and space occupancy situation.

Locate the mount path with the file system named VMFS3, or use the space usage to determine if the path to the virtual machine file should be/VMFS/VOLUMES/4F4F4F94-9C9152CA-C226-842B2B1419F1

2. In this path to find BSCRM-117.VMX and bscrm-117.vmdk these two files, execute the SCP command to copy the file to the target server's corresponding directory, this process is long, I spent about 2 hours, of course, if it is a snapshot of the virtual machine also need to copy snapshot files,

3. Then execute "Add to Manifest" in vsphere client.
