Hot backup Deployment mode for layer one or two switches

This kind of hot backup deployment mode is the most common and simplest way to deploy in the network, and it is generally more common in the network distribution layer. This is typically the case in order to achieve redundancy of the switch, or to ensure the continuous and stable operation of the servers connected on the switch. Because of the operation of the server, generally to ensure the continuous operation of 7x24 hours. Therefore, it is more appropriate to adopt this deployment model. As shown in Figure 1, the two-layer switch is a hot backup deployment topology diagram, including two CISOC 2960 switches and two servers, the structure is relatively clear.

The connection between devices is as follows:

The IP address of the Server1 is 192.168.2.11, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0,server2 with an IP address of 192.168.2.12, and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Two servers on the Eth0 and Eth1 two Nic is bound together, such as Server1 Eth0 and Eth1 Two network cards with the external data communication, two network cards use the IP address is 192.168.2.11/24, if a NIC failure, Another network card will continue to communicate with the outside world, and will not affect the normal operation of the server. At present, a lot of software can realize this dual-NIC binding function, such as Roseha, NIC Express and so on.

The Server1 and Server2 are in the main standby mode, and the cable connection between them is equivalent to the one mind jumper. Two servers are equipped with dual-computer software, dual-computer software at all times to monitor the parameters of the main standby server, and through the heartbeat line Transmission control information.

Two-computer software monitoring parameters can be the server's network card, database, and the operation of various applications, and so on, if any one of the parameters are found to be abnormal, the dual-computer software will be transmitted through the heartbeat Line control information, so that the standby server into an active server to take over the original primary server applications, And let the original primary server become a standby server. In this case, the outside user simply does not feel the switch of the backend server, also does not affect the user to the various application experience.

The main configuration of the Cisco 2960A is as follows:

The two switches are connected via trunk lines, so that the four devices in Figure 1 are actually in the same VLAN, VLAN2. The IP address of the Vlan2 on both switches is used as an administrative address, so that users can remotely configure and manage the switches on both servers by remotely logging on to the switch.

This configuration mode can guarantee the failure of any one of the two switches, and it will not affect the normal operation of the business on the server. For example, for a Cisco 2960A fault, the Server1 can be connected to the Cisco 2960B via the Eth1 NIC above it and connected to the network. The Server2 can also be connected to the Cisco 2960B via the Eth1 above it and connected to the network. Similarly, if the Cisco 2960B fails, it will not affect the normal operation of the two servers. This mode of application also avoids the single point of failure of the switch and server.

Hot backup Deployment mode for layer two or three network devices

In the example above, the network device used is the Cisco 2960, which belongs to the two-tier device. If the network device is a three-tier device, such as a layer three switch or router, to implement the hot-standby function, you need to apply to the specific protocol. For Cisco devices, you can use the HSRP, VRRP, and GLBP protocols. The HSRP (hot Standby Router Protocol, thermal Backup router protocol) and GLBP (Gateway load Balancing Protocol, gateways Loading equalization protocol) are Cisco proprietary protocols that can only be used on Cisco devices. VRRP (Virtual Router redundancy Protocol) is a public protocol that can be used either on Cisco devices or on H3C devices.

The following is an example of the three-layer switch Cisco 3750, which describes the application of the HSRP protocol in the network device hot backup function. As shown in Figure 2, the network structure diagram is the same as the network structure in "one", except that the network device is replaced by the Cisco 3750.
