Experiences of installing Ubuntu

Because of the experimental requirements, we need to install the linux system on the thinkpadx220 small version. ubuntu is preferred for ease of use. However, the installation was difficult: x220 itself had no optical drive, and the network speed of the school had reduced the possibility of network installation to zero, so I had to choose a USB flash disk for installation. We can see that the alternate version is higher because it is installed locally.

We can see that the alternate version has higher running performance due to local installation, so we decided to install ubuntu11.10 alternate CD.

Installation experience:

1. Use a 1g USB flash drive to install the alternate version. use ultraISO to create the mounting disk. after the USB flash drive is started, only text information such as copyright is displayed, and then the file will die;

2. the same error occurs when you use ultraISO to create an installation disk on a 4G Kingston USB flash drive;

3. if the problem is found to be caused by the PBR version of ultraISO, upgrade it to version 4.0 or later. after the BOOTICE upgrade is used, the alternate version can start the installation, however, when the installation process reaches the "select and install software" step, the system prompts that the installation fails. you can skip this step to continue the installation, however, after the installation is complete, the graphical interface cannot be entered (the computer is not connected to the network at this time );

4. check the information on the internet. it is recommended that you use unetbootin to create a boot disk. it is said that there will be no errors ...), The same error still occurs after use;

5. the computer is connected to the internet through a proxy, and the installation still fails. it is estimated that the school network is poor;

6. later I found that I needed to copy the installation scene file to the root directory of the installation disk. After I copied the 4g usb flash drive, I found that only the flashing cursor was started without the installation interface;

7. no matter whether 1G or 4G is used or whether the image file is copied or not, the installation interface is still unavailable...

8. some people on the internet suggest using the Universal-USB-Installer to create the installation disk. ubuntu officially also recommends this method. after the installation, the system can be installed, but the software still cannot be installed;

9. Finally, I realized that there is no portable software in alternatmcm and it must be downloaded online. So the hard-pressed man resolutely gave up alternate and used the Universal-USB-Installer to create the installation USB flash drive. as a result, there was no prompt at the startup, only the cursor was flashing.

10. The final system is ubuntu11.10DVD. use ultraISO to burn the hard disk image and format the USB flash disk as fat32. the optional storage space is set to zero. after burning the disk, upgrade the partition boot record, you can install the USB flash drive after it is started ~~

Conclusion: a stable operating system is a solid foundation for efficient work (think of the old version of fedora as chilling), but it is too paranoid (it is necessary to eliminate the idea of changing ubuntu10.04 or debian ), it is also a trade off process.
