Using windowsNT to build a LAN has been mastered by many people. However, if you build a network with windows as the operating system, you only find that the Microsoft website has detailed operation procedures in English and no relevant Chinese documents are displayed.
Windows is divided into Professional Edition and Server Edition. This article will cover both versions. This section also describes how to configure the domain controller. This article is still based on the English version of windows2000 Sever.

Note:
1. for servers, Microsoft recommends an Intel-based processor with at least 64 MB of memory, which is larger and better. The hard disk storage space can be determined based on the server workload. Microsoft also provides the hard disk space required by computing servers. In addition, the server must be equipped with NICs with high speeds.
2. establish a Windows Network and assign enough workstations according to the usage requirements, so as to adapt to various situations in actual use, these Workstations include desktops, roaming users, mobile users, and other suitable users. Microsoft recommends that workstation use Intel-based microprocessor, at least 32 MB of memory and sufficient hard disk space, and use Windows professional operating system.
3. the HUB port is sufficient and relevant network hardware devices are prepared.
4. You can use Routing and Remote Access Services to change or configure the remote user environment and support dialing and modem.
5. For more information about Windows 2000 hardware requirements, visit Windows Product Compatibility.
6. server name conventions:

The nn in the table indicates a number greater than 02.
Ii. Server Configuration
1. Configuration:
2. server disk configuration:
Here we will only describe how to use a single server to establish a windows2000-based network. In this case, the server can use two disk configuration schemes:
A. Two independent physical hard disks are used.
B. use only one physical hard disk, but divide it into two partitions.
There is no difference between the two solutions in terms of performance. As for which one you use, it depends on what you mean. However, if you want to build a network with more than one server. Hard Disk configuration is not discussed in this article. You can refer to the installation instructions when using it!
On the first hard disk or partition, you can store windows installation files, or create source files or applications required for the network.
Another hard disk or partition is used to install the operating system.
The capacity of each partition should be several GB or more, and the partition and format must adopt the NTFS system. As for the process of creating NTFS file partitioning and formatting, it is a common operation. Some sections will be mentioned below. For a complete introduction, please refer to the relevant materials.
Iii. Installation Process
Before installation, all network hardware must be installed and physical connections must be established.
The starting point of the installation process is to first create a boot floppy disk: After preparing four high-quality 3.5 inch floppy disks and Windows Server System installation discs, the installation will start:
1) start the computer and put it into the windows 2000 server CD drive in the optical drive.
2) When the prompt message "you can update Windows 2000", that is, wocould you like to upgrade to Windows, click "NO.
3) In the displayed dialog box, select Browse This CD, that is, Click Browse This CD.
4) when the folder list appears, double-click the folder named "BOOTDISK" to open it.
5) double-click the MAKEBT 32 file to execute the program.
6) Next, select the drive you want to use and type "A" to use the drive.
7) insert the first floppy disk into A: Drive and press enter to confirm.
8) the remaining three floppy disks can be inserted in sequence according to the system prompts. When necessary, you must enter a volume label that indicates the sequence of creation.
9) after making the four installation floppy disks, you can close the program and restart the computer to start the next part of the installation process.
Here, we assume that you are doing a new installation on a completely blank partition. If you want to upgrade the original windows on the partition, the operation will be different.
Formal installation process:
(1). Insert the first floppy disk created in the previous step in the soft drive. The remaining three floppy disks can be inserted after the system prompts .)
(2) start the computer and start installation.
(3) After the welcome page for Setup appears, press enter to confirm.
(4). In the following dialog box, check whether you agree to use the agreement. Press F8 if you agree. If you have a server version of windows 2000 on your hard disk, you can be prompted to fix system files. With this, you can perform the above four steps in the future.
If the hard disk does not meet the NTFS system requirements or has other information, the system will prompt you to partition and format it. When two partitions are created on one hard disk, it is recommended that the two partitions be equal to the size of the two partitions. As for partitioning, formatting, and filling in the volume label, we will not go into details here.
Summary. After formatting, copy all the files on the CD disk installed on windows2000 Server to the hard disk.
1. restart the computer. After the installation wizard is displayed, click "Next". The windows2000 installer starts to detect the installation of the drive and collect relevant information. This may take several minutes, the screen may flash during this period depending on the speed of the machine.
2. After the Regional Settings dialog box appears, set the region, select the country and city, and click "Next" to proceed to the Next step.
3. for Windows Server Installation, you must enter the user's name, company name, or group name, that is, the Personalize Your Software Dialog Box. enter Your name in the name edit box: Mike Nash, in the Organization edit box, enter Reskit. In this case, all the names are entered in English, but not in Chinese. In particular, they are specified to be consistent with the example described later. Of course you can use another name. Click Next.
4. Enter the serial number of the CD disk, which is familiar to everyone. The serial number can be found on the product tag. Press enter to confirm the operation.
5. In the "use license mode" dialog box, select the appropriate license mode and click Next.
6. the Computer Name and Administrator Password dialog box appears, which is for entering the Computer Name and Administrator Password, for only one server, enter the Name of the Computer recommended above: HQ-RES-DC-01, the administrator password is determined by himself. Enter the password and click "Next ". it should be noted that the password setting process can also be performed without being set first or later, but without a password, it is insecure. Therefore, the recommended method for Microsoft is not to omit the password setting process.
7. In the Windows 2000 Components dialog box, you can select which parts of Windows are to be installed. Click Next and wait several minutes until the network part is installed. Note that the HUB power supply driven by the server should be turned on. Otherwise, the installation may be abnormal. This is not the same as windowsNT.
8. Date and time settings, which do not need to be described in detail.
9. Go to the "set workgroup or Computer Domain" dialog box, that is, Workgroups or Computer Domain. The default NO option should be selected, followed by the next step.
As you need to continue to install and configure system components, it may take several minutes for the machine to perform these tasks.
10. If the Windows 2000 Setup screen appears, it means that the installation at this stage has completely ended. Remove the CD from the optical drive and click Finish.
Boot the operating system from the hard disk and restart the computer.
At this point, we have installed windows server on the server. The whole process is basically the same as installing windows on a single machine.
