ArcGIS Server operating system requirements and restrictions All Platforms
  • Server display requirements:

  • 1024x768 or higher is recommended in standard size (96 DPI)
  • 24-bit color depth
  • Some ArcGIS Server functions such as globeserver and geometry require OpenGL 1.3 library functions. These libraries are usually included in the operating systems supported by ArcGIS Server. In Microsoft Windows, these libraries are provided along with the operating system. For specific platform requirements, see the following.
  • Some core geographic processing tools require python 2.6.x and numerical Python 1.3.0 support. We recommend that you use the ArcGIS Server installer to install Python 2.6.5 and numerical Python 1.3.0. You can deselect the python function during the installation process to choose not to install Python 2.6.5 and numerical Python 1.3.0. Python is a sub-function of the server object container (SOC.
    Microsoft Windows
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or later must be installed. Before installing ArcGIS Server to Windows, you must first obtain and install Internet Explorer 7.0 or later.

    • Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008: when you use the ArcGIS Server. net manager in Vista or Windows Server 2008, an exception or error may occur in your application. For more information, see kb35105.
    Linux
    • Only Linux on the X86 platform supports ArcGIS Server, and the CPU must comply with the X86 architecture, and ensure that the Linux version is supported.
    • The operating system (binary file) must not be modified. If the product is installed in the developer operating system, ESRI will not provide any support.
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4:
      • As long as the patches from RHEL as/es are supported by webserver and they are from Red Hat and have not made any changes to the latest kernel/glibc version, ESRI will provide support.
      • The following groups are required:
        • From the quota tops Group

          • X Window System package group (adequate standard package)-For details, see kb37379.
        • From the Development Group
          • The toolkit group where the gcc-g77 package comes from the additional package section-the required library libg2c. so.0 belongs to the libf2c package; The libf2c package is provided by the gcc-g77 package
          • Legacy Software Development Package groups (adequate standard packages)
      • In addition, the following software packages are required (the package version cannot be earlier than the preceding version ):
        • Compat-OpenLDAP
        • OpenSSL
      • 64-bit operating system support: you must first install the above 32-bit version of the software package, and then install ArcGIS Server.
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5:
      • As long as the patches from RHEL as/es are supported by webserver and they are from Red Hat and have not made any changes to the latest kernel/glibc version, ESRI will provide support.

        • Compat-libf2c-34
        • Compat-libstdc ++-33
        • Compat-libstdc ++-296
        • Compat-OpenLDAP

    • Starting from version 9.3, if you run on a Solaris system that supports Sun's new tool "extended file", ArcGIS Engine, arcreader, and ArcGIS Server can use this function. This feature can significantly increase the number of files opened by ArcGIS on Solaris at the same time. Currently, sun's "extended file" support is only available on Solaris 10. This support is automatically added to Solaris 10 released after January 1, June 2007. To add "extended file" to earlier versions of Solaris 10, we recommend that you install the following patches:
      • 125100-04 kernel update Patch

    Supported Virtual Environments

    All the components of ArcGIS Server (including ArcSDE) run on the supported platform and fully support the virtual environment. See the supported server platforms mentioned above. When running a third-party application such as a relational database using ArcGIS Server, the application must also support virtual environments. Check the virtualization support of third-party vendors.

    If an ESRI software-specific problem is found in a virtual environment, ESRI's Support Service Department will attempt to reproduce the problem on an independent machine. If the problem cannot be reproduced on any of the above supported server platforms on an independent machine, unless the problem occurs in the following VM environment, otherwise, ESRI will not provide repair programs and further support for problems specific to the virtual environment:

    • VMware vsphere 4
