ECMA International approved the seventh edition of the ECMAScript Language specification (ECMAScript 2016). ECMAScript is a standardized JavaScript language, with the first edition released in 1997 and the second and third editions released in 1998 and 1999. After ECMAScript for many years, it was not until after Ajax became popular that standard work started again. The fifth version was released in 2009 and the sixth version was released in 2015. ECMAScript now publishes a new version of the specification every year, and ECMAScript 2017 is in the making.

The seventh version, also known as ECMAScript 2016, does not change much compared to the sixth version, with the main addition of two new features:

Array.prototype.include
Take exponentiation operator
