Google just released the Google Sync service for iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and other mobile phones yesterday. This service can synchronize contacts and calendar information that support Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync or SyncML mobile phones (More Google services such as emails should be supported in the future) with the Google server. With the Push Mail technology (mainly for mobile phones that support Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync protocol), you can synchronize the changes made to the address book and schedule on the PC to the mobile phone in real time.
This article describes how to configure Google sync for mobile phones on Windows Mobile and Symbian platforms, and introduces the basic knowledge of SyncML.
Google sync currently supports the following platforms:
- IPhone
- Blackberry
- Nokia s60
- Nokia Standard
- Sony Ericsson
- Windows Mobile
It is strange that Google's Android platform is not supported. I believe that Google sync is more comprehensive and powerful on the Android platform.
Two news articles worth noting are:
1. Google takes patent license to Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
Google is authorized to use Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. Therefore, Google sync uses the ActiveSync protocol to support synchronization on some platforms (mainly Windows Mobile and iPhone, it is believed that this is a piece of work Google uses to support the Push Mail function and other business functions, so as to win business people. After all, Exchange Server is still widely used in enterprises.
2. Microsoft launched the Mobile Backup service my phone
Haha, it seems that there is no enemy forever, and there is only eternal benefit.
1. Google sync configuration for Symbian Platform
The supported models of Nokia s60, Nokia standard, and Sony Ericsson Based on the Symbian platform are based on the SyncML protocol. For details about SyncML, refer to the introduction below.
Taking N95 as an example, the configuration procedure is as follows:
1. Select "menu"> Tools> synchronization processing.
2. select option-> New synchronization scenario mode, and fill in the following options
Synchronous scene mode name: Google sync
Click "application" Program ", Enter the settings, and fill in the following content
Synchronization of name card holders: Remote database: contacts. Note that the synchronization type must be correctly spelled: bidirectional. You can select bidirectional, server-only, and mobile phone-only as needed, for more information, see the seven SyncML synchronization methods. According to official instructions, currently the Symbian platform only supports synchronization of all communication records. Therefore, you only need to configure the name card folder option,
3. connection settings
Server version: 1.2 server identification code: Google, note is capital G data bearing mode: Internet Access Point: Choose user-defined-> mobile dream host address: https://m.google.com/syncml (Note for HTTPS) Port: 443 User name: Gmail account name (Format: userid@gmail.com) password: Gmail password other options remain unchanged 4, click back, return to the synchronous processing interface (choose the menu-> connection function-> synchronous processing) 5. Select Google sync to start synchronization.
2. Google sync configuration for Windows Mobile Platform
For supported models on Windows Mobile, the configuration method is as follows:
1. Enable ActiveSync
2. Click "menu"> Add source server
3. In the "enter email address" step, enter the Gmail email address (do not select "try to automatically detect Exchange Server Settings"), and click Next
4. In the "Edit Server Settings" step, enter the server address m.google.com (select "SSL connections for servers") and click Next.
5. In the "user information" step, fill in the User Name field (userid@gmail.com), password field, domain field is empty, select "Save Password", click Next
6. In the "Edit Server Settings" step, select the data to be synchronized and click Finish to start synchronization.
3. Synchronize configurations on other platforms
For the ipone platform, Google sync adopts Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync protocol. For the synchronous setting method, refer to Google's official help.
Sync: Set up your iPhone or iPod Touch
For the BlackBerry platform, Google Sync has a separate client that can be accessed from the mobile phone address http://m.google.com/sync. then download the Google sync client and configure it for synchronization. For more information, see
For some SyncML-supported models of Motorola, Samsung, and Tianyu (including some stockade machines), you can follow similar steps. Motorola supports SyncML models: a1200, a728, a760, a768i, a780, E2, E6, L6, L7, U6, V3, v300, v303, v360, v3i, v600, V8, and Z3 Samsung support SyncML Models: SGH-D508, SGH-E728
4. Reference knowledge: 4.1 about SyncML
SyncML is the only industry-wide mobile data synchronization protocol released by SyncML initiative. It is an open protocol. The SyncML Protocol aims to solve the problems of data synchronization and device management between mobile devices and networks. Before SyncML, data synchronization and device management were implemented based on various private protocols. Each Protocol only supports limited devices and data types. Protocols cannot communicate with each other, which limits user data access, transmission and mobility.
The main purposes of SyncML are as follows:
- Network data can be synchronized through any mobile device.
- Data in mobile devices can also be synchronized using any network.
- SyncML protocol features:
- Can work on different networks-including wired and wireless networks.
- Supports multiple transmission protocols, including HTTP, WSP, OBEX, SMTP, and pure TCP/IP.
- Supports common personal data formats such as vCard, vcalendar, and E-MAIL.
- Considering the resource restrictions of mobile devices, the storage space of mobile devices is optimized.
- It is executable and collaborative based on internet protocol and Web technology.
- The minimum protocol function is to grant the most common synchronization capabilities to all devices.
