How does MySQL accumulate?

How does MySQL accumulate?
For example, now I have a value of 897 in MySQL.
New join 763 eventually get 897+763

is not sure to visit MySQL first to fetch 897 and then add 763

Write to MySQL again

What I want now is whether there is no need to fetch 897 directly write 763 and write the value is 897+763

is equal to want to visit MySQL MySQL less once

If the value
Updatetbl_name Set field_name=field_name+763
Field_name becomes 1660

If the string
Updatetbl_name set Field_name=concat (Field_name, ' 763 ')
Field_name becomes 897763


