I have seen a lot of articles on creating "release version" Windows XP on the internet, and I tried it myself, but I always think that the Tablet PC components are not very easy to use, so I tried again to simplify the process of creating the Community Edition. I didn't expect to create a Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 version. So I would like to share it with you here, not to mention my plagiarism! (Note: The "release version" XP method simplifies the process of installing the Tablet PC component. It only comes out of a Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 version. as to why it should be converted into version 2005, because version 2004 does not support new IE7 and Windows Media Player 11, and new components will not be supported in the future, so you have to make it version 2005)
Principle: Because Windows XP Media Center Edition is based on Windows XP Professional, some digital Media enhancements have evolved, therefore, it does not seem difficult to transform the Professional edition to the media center edition, but Microsoft has locked the key values in the Registry in the Service Pack 2 patch provided to the Professional Edition, so it is difficult to change. This method is to use the Recovery Console and Registry Editor in Windows XP to change the key value of the registry, then, call the Windows XP installer to install the digital media enhancement function to transform the Windows XP Professional Edition without any compatibility issues. Billy uses other third-party software to make the transformation more reliable, however, the process may be somewhat complicated. Please do not try it easily! System faults may occur due to a slight carelessness. Please proceed with caution.
Required programs and files: (provided at the end of the article)
1. Genuine or Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 that can pass genuine verification (remember: Home Edition is not supported !) 2. Windows XP system installation CD; 3. Windows XP Media Center Edition's second installation CD; 4. IceSword 1.12; 5. installation information files required for Media Center Edition (included in the attachment); 6. Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 update summary 2; 7. Microsoft. NET Framework 1.0.3705 and its latest update Service Pack 3 (both required !)
Start Transformation:
1. Open IceSword, select "file" on the left, locate the C: \ Windows \ System32 \ Config \ folder, and copy the SYSTEM file to other partitions (such as D: \) to keep the original SYSTEM file name. (Note: You must back up a SYSTEM file to prevent errors when you modify the Registry. You can recover it)
2. Open Registry Editor, select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, open the File menu, select "load configuration Unit", and load the SYSTEM file we just copied, give it a name, such as TEMP, so that a TEMP item is added to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE;
3. Expand TEMP and locate SYSTEM \ WPA. You may see MediaCenter and TabletPC, or only MediaCenter. If there is a TabletPC entry, delete it, go to MediaCenter and you will see a DWORD Value named Installed. If not, create a new one. Double-click it, change "value data" to 1, and click "OK" to exit, click the new TEMP item again, select "Uninstall Configuration unit" from the "file" menu, and then exit the Registry Editor;
4. Install Microsoft. NET Framework 1.0.3705 and Microsoft. NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3 without affecting the work of later. NET Framework versions;
5. Add the Windows XP installation disc to the optical drive, restart it, and set it as the disc boot in the BIOS. After the disc is loaded, open the Recovery Console and log on to C: \ for Windows installation, if the changed SYSTEM file is under D: \, run the command copy D: \ system c: \ Windows \ System32 \ Config \, select "Yes" to rewrite the original file, and then enter exit to restart. (Note: The command just now depends on the file in different folders)
6. If an exception occurs after the restart, such as a SYSTEM failure or a blue screen crash, repeat Step 5 to restore the original backup SYSTEM file, sorry, your computer cannot be converted to the Media Center version. Give up. If there is no problem after restart, continue with the following steps;
7. Copy the downloaded three installation information files to the C: \ Windows \ Inf \ folder, overwrite the original files, and then prepare the Windows XP Media Center Edition CD2 disc, if the iso file is downloaded from the Internet, decompress it with WinRAR and you will get a folder named "CMPNENTS". Open it and there will be three folders, move the "MEDIACTR" folder to D: \ or another drive (you can find it later). Delete the other ones that are useless;
8. Execute the following commands in sequence to install the Media Center Edition component: (Note: you only need to locate the file location in the MEDIACTR folder)
(1) required Media Center components (MEDIACTR. CAB): rundll32 advpack. dll, LaunchINFSection % windir % \ inf \ medctroc. inf, Freestyle (After completion, the system may prompt to restart)
(2) install Windows digital media enhancement (PLUS. CAB)
Install "Aquarium" Screen Protection: rundll32 advpack. dll, LaunchINFSection % windir % \ inf \ plusoc. inf, PlusGold

Add four enhanced desktop themes to the system: rundll32 advpack. dll, LaunchINFSection % windir % \ inf \ plusoc. inf, PlusTheme
(3) Sonic DVD and CD (sonic. cab), including support for DVD and CD burning for media centers, PhotoStory and MovieMaker. Without a burner, you do not have to install it:
Rundll32 advpack. dll, LaunchINFSection % windir % \ inf \ sonic. inf, SonicDVDandCDBurning
Now, the enhanced features in Meida Center Edition have been installed. Now, go to "Help and Support" in the "Start" menu ", the original system version is changed from Windows XP Professional to Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004. Therefore, we also need to install a series of updates to upgrade the existing version to Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, so that the system can support some software such as IE7 and Windows Media Player 11 and other software that Microsoft will launch in the future, of course, if you do not want to use these software, you can stop it here. Of course, if you are interested in Microsoft's new software, you can continue with the following steps.
9. Use winrardecompress the downloaded Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 update summary 2 (KB900325) update package (important! If you run it directly, an installation error will be prompted during the installation process.) You will get a folder named bin, open it, run the KB900325 update program in it, and then follow the prompts to complete the operation and restart the program;
10. log on to Microsoft Update or Windows Update to upgrade your system. This will help you install some enhancement components;
11. Open "start" and run "Help and Support". Make sure your version is Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005!
This method is successfully tested on my Sony VAIO SZ22CP laptop (this is pre-installed with Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2, do not believe a friend here to verify: http://www.sonystyle.com.cn/vaio/products/tr_spec_index_alt.asp? IdCategory = 243 & idSerial = 70 & keyword = spec). In fact, this is a simplified method to convert XP into a "simplified version", because this is rarely seen, so we will present it to you after sorting it out. This is also the first time I have made a system transformation. Please give me more advice and wish everyone a happy "May Day!
