Step 1:

Determine the block device name. From the command prompt, the runls/trigger/ideThis command will be listed in the output, and all IDE devices like this will be connected to your computer: driver's high house building board @ ide0 HDC/IDE1 interface/piix Lane name allocation continuity. they differ in the location of the IDE bus on the letter, so the master drive of the master HDA, the master-slave station house building board, and so on. In this example, we will assume that hdc is a new drive and is installed as the second master.

. 2

. Partition with commandfdisk the new drive is/dev/HDC (replace "HDC" with the name of the new drive block device) in the fdisk prompt, list the current partition by P device. If there are any existing partitions, press D and delete them as prompted. Then press N and follow the prompts to create a new primary partition. then press W to write to the partition table and exit.

. 3

. Format the new partition. Since the drive is/dev/HDC, this is the first partition on the drive, and the block device name for this partition is/dev/hdc1. Run commandmkfs-T /Dev/hdc1Replace . In the only Linux environment, most people use ext3 and ReiserFS. Allow commands to complete the installation with your partition.

. 4

. Create a directory as a "Mount point" for your new partition, if you do not have it. This directory does not contain any data, but it provides a new partition access point. Create a mount point directory/mnt/newdriveFeel with commandmkdir and change it to any directory or location of/mnt/newdrive at will, as you wish. By convention, most Mount points are retained in the/mnt directory, but this is not required.

. 5

The commandmount/dev/hdc1 point on the mountain, to the/mnt/newdriveThe system will automatically determine your new partition format, and will install new partitions in the specified directory. Your drive is now in use.

. 6

. Enable the drive to be automatically mounted at startup. Edit the/etc/fstab file. Each row in this file indicates a device installed on the computer at startup, and the mount command for any options or information needs to be executed. Add the block device name line of the default 2 1Replace of the drive from reading/dev/hdc1 to/mnt/newdrive ext3 at the end, and mount the appropriate vertex or format, but unless you know what you are doing, give it to the rest of the line .. After a blank line is included, more information is stored in the last row of the file to ensure that the system reads your data. Save it in the/etc/fstab file.

. 7

. Test your new/etc/fstab. . Runmount/dev/hdc1The system should read rows from fstab. to learn all the information, you need to mount a new partition. If you receive any error, your new device is all set. It will now automatically mount the computer that starts at the same location with the same settings.
