A Linux host can be maintained through a serial port like a vro or vswitch through simple settings. The settings are recorded as follows:

1. Add the following in the/etc/inittab:

Co: 2345: respawn:/sbin/agetty ttyS0 9600 vt100 init q

2. Add the following in/etc/securetty:

TtyS0

3. Add the following in/etc/grub. conf:

Console = ttyS0, 9600 console = tty0

For example:

Kernel/vmlinuz-2.6.18-8.1.8.el5 ro root =/dev/vg00/lv_root console = ttyS0, 9600 console = tty0

The serial line uses the RS232 line with both sides of the master.
