Reset Unity
If you want to reset Unity (only reset the settings of Unity in the Compiz settings manager and keep other settings), open the terminal (or press ALT + F2) and enter:
Unity -- reset Unity startup icon
If you want to reset the Unity startup icon (the dock panel on the left) to bring it back to the initial state, run the following command:
Unity -- reset-icons reset Compiz on Ubuntu 11.04
Resetting Compiz in Ubuntu11.04 is a bit more complicated than earlier ubuntu versions, because it is set in apps/compiz-1 than in earlier versions of/apps/compiz.
Warning: This is done only when you have no other solutions! Using these two commands may make you no longer see the Unity startup icon and the top panel! If you want to use it, you are at your own risk.
To reset all Compiz settings (including plug-ins and other settings) to the initial value, open the terminal (do not run with ALT + F2! After the first command is run, the top panel and running bar will disappear until the second command is entered on the terminal) and enter:
Gconftool-2 -- recursive-unset/apps/compiz-1unity -- reset if there is something wrong after running, log out and log on again.
