You can use Windows performance monitor to check in real time how running programs affect computer performance and collect log data for future analysis.

"Event tracking data" is collected from the tracking provider, which is a component of the operating system or individual applications used to report operations or events. The output of multiple tracing providers can be merged into one tracing session.
"Configuration information" is collected from the Windows registry key value. Windows performance monitor can record the registry key value at a specified time or interval as part of a log file.
Use Performance Monitor
Performance Monitor is a simple and powerful visualization tool used to view performance data in real time and from log files. You can use it to check performance data in charts, histograms, or reports.
The membership or equivalent identity in the local performance log users group is the minimum requirement to complete this process.
To start a Performance Monitor
Click Start, click in the Start search box, type perfmon, and then press Enter.
In the navigation tree, expand monitoring tools and click Performance Monitor ".
You can also use performance monitor to view real-time performance data on a remote computer.

Procedure for using performance monitor to connect to a remote computer
Start the Performance Monitor.
In the navigation tree, right-click reliability and performance, and then click Connect to another computer ".
In the select computer dialog box, type the name of the computer to be monitored, or click browse to select the computer from the list.

Other considerations
To view performance counters on a remote computer, you must enable the Performance Logs and alarms firewall exception on the remote computer. In addition, members of the performance log users group must also be members of the Event Log Reader group on the remote computer.
