IBM's new web layer integrated server-Linux Enterprise Application-Linux server application information. The following is a detailed description. IBM has released a new mid-End Server Based on the IBM POWER5 processor, which features powerful performance, IT can greatly improve IT efficiency and reduce the energy, space, and system costs brought to the company by the surge in x86 Linux servers. By using the optional advanced POWER virtual (APV) feature, this new 1.8 GHz IBM System p5 560Q (16 kernel) server can simultaneously process 160 virtual server images (each System ), is the most powerful member of the three new Web-layer integrated solution families.
These Web-layer integrated solutions include IBM BladeCenter JS21 Web Serving Farms solutions that provide up to 14 BLADES per System for Low-end users, and Express products starting with a single PowerPC processor blade or 1U rack system. All three solutions use IBM's advanced POWER Virtualization (APV) technology. Each kernel can support up to 10 virtual server images. In addition, these solutions can be used for the new Novell Integrated Stack for SUSE Linux Enterprise (issystemic) for System p, which is also the product just released.
Virtualization expands "integration"
The new System p5 560Q provides a variety of cutting-edge virtual functions, such as allowing customers to run the partitioning functions of multiple virtual computers on one System, as well as the well-known advanced POWER virtual (APV) features, it allows multiple partitions to run on each processor. This virtual technology supports I/O sharing and can automatically allocate excess resources to various applications as needed.
Virtual functions can achieve effective infrastructure integration. For example, a maximum of 320 x86 Linux applications originally run in 8 standard cabinets (42 1U servers per Cabinet) are integrated into one 5 560Q servers (16 cores) in the cabinet, 320 applications can be installed and run independently in their virtual server images, which is expected to save up to 80% of the space occupied by the data center.
To further simplify the system, IBM's web-layer integration solution also uses IBM Systems ctor software, which enables IT administrators to go through a single control interface, it is easy to deploy, view, and manage all physical and virtual resources in the data center, thus improving operational efficiency. When combined with IBM Tivoli Enterprise Service management software, the customer can manage all its resources, including various Web applications.
Top in benchmark test scores
Based on IBM's fastest-ever QCM (4-core processor module) POWER5 + processor technology, System p5 560Q provides up to 32 threads (16-processor cores) for enabling concurrent multithreading) to support high-performance computing or web-layer cluster applications. The unique and scalable modular feature provided by the system extends the number of cores per system from four to 16, each standard cabinet can have up to 80 cores.
In addition, p5 560Q has a variety of leading RAS features including built-in redundancy and excellent design to provide higher application availability and meet the requirements of high level customer service protocols. The system can run any combination of the AIX 5L operating system, Red Hat Enterprise Edition, and Novell SUSE Enterprise Edition Linux operating system, not only has IBM added a competitive product to the medium-sized UNIX server product line provided to customers, but it has also become one of the three brand new Web layer integration solutions with the highest performance.
In particular, the leading benchmark test result of p5 560Q was impressive. For example, in the 16-core SPECompM2001 test, the best Linux system was achieved with a 77% advantage, it is much higher than the product indicators of its competitors.
Mr. Scott Handy, vice president of IBM Linux and open source, said: "The New 560Q has 4-core processor module technology, supports new I/O drawers, and provides excellent virtual functions, it not only becomes a new hot medium server in our UNIX server product line, but also provides a suitable option for customers who want to save money by integrating the Linux web server environment. Whether using the new 560Q to integrate 320 1U x86 servers into one cabinet, or using our new integration suite to integrate 12 servers into one blade or 1U server, IBM System p will change the economics of Linux web services through these powerful new solutions."
The new Novell Integrated Stack for SUSE Linux Enterprise now supports IBM System p racks and blade servers.
According to a report released recently, the IBM System p server will run the Integrated Stack for SUSE Linux Enterprise (issystemic ), this is a software package that integrates Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server with open-source and proprietary source code software provided by IBM and Centeris.
This product is very suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises to provide file services and printing, Web applications and database functions. This product can help users more easily integrate Linux servers into Windows environments, providing more choices and flexibility for organizations using Microsoft Windows software.
This secure hybrid source code package (which is now supported by the IBM System p server) can be integrated and installed through channel partners, higher security, reliability, and performance are offered at very attractive costs compared with other solutions. The issystemic solution has passed tests using IBM System Storage to ensure a solid foundation for today's consolidation and future growth.
