Improved small Wi-Fi networks to maximize performance

Wi-FiWireless Fidelity is essentially a commercial certification. Wi-Fi-certified products comply with IEEE 802.11b wireless network specifications and are currently the most widely used WLAN standard, the bandwidth band is 2.4 GHz.

Although in a Wi-Fi network, a single access point can cover a house or a small office, you need to pay attention to some problems. First, make sure that you have successfully achieved the maximum effect of the current Wi-Fi router. To install the router in the middle of the House, it may be more suitable in a higher area on the wall. Second, ensure that other GHz devices, such as wireless phones, wireless speakers, Bluetooth devices, and microwave ovens, do not cause conflicts or interference, based on the router bandwidth, the routers of adjacent buildings are separated from each other. For example, if Channel 1 is used in the office next door, you can try to use channel 12 to minimize the chance of conflict between channels.

If the signal you get is still very weak, you can consider upgrading to the MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output) or Draft-N technology. These routers not only provide a larger area range than the Standard 802.11b/g router, but also increase the transmission speed by 10 times. Finally, if there is a special Wi-Fi faulty node, the power cord network will be of great help to solve this problem. With the power cord device, you only need to insert an adapter into a wall-mounted power outlet and connect an ethernet cable to the router. Then you plug in another adapter to the power outlet, which is close to the network device you want to connect and inserts an Ethernet cable into the device. You need a relatively clean power supply, that is, to avoid interference from other electrical equipment. However, the latest technology, such as HomePlug AV and HD-PLC, is running well.

Do you want to upgrade to 802.11n?

As technology advances, Wi-Fi standards are constantly evolving. The earliest Wi-Fi router adopted 802.11b, and the signal speed reached 11 Mbit/s, with a lower throughput than the signal rate. Next-generation routers increase the signal speed to 54 Mbit/s, and the throughput reaches 20 Mbit/s. Now, MIMO and draft-802.11n routers have increased the border rate of wireless routers to 54 Mbit/s, the actual throughput can reach about 90 Mbit/s, has formed a competitive situation with wired Ethernet. This year, the Wi-Fi Alliance began to authenticate draft-802.11n routers. If you want to purchase a new router in the market, simply purchase the products of these types. However, if your old router provides satisfactory performance, you do not need to upgrade it immediately. Your current device uses 802.11n to work well. When you really need to use applications with high bandwidth consumption (such as some video applications), make another decision. At that time, the price will decrease.

Share a printer or other device on a Wi-Fi network

You can purchase a device that converts a wired Ethernet port to a device with Wi-Fi function. These Wi-Fi to Ethernet bridges can be purchased from D-Link and Netgear to work with Ethernet printers.

If your Wi-Fi network can obtain an IP address through DHCP, your adapter will usually work well. Otherwise, you can connect your adapter to a PC and assign it an IP address.

For printers without Ethernet ports, you can purchase a wireless printer server from companies such as Belkin, D-Link, and Linksys. Be sure to select a printer with a USB port and/or parallel port to match your printer. However, you must note that when using this method to connect, the multi-functional device usually loses all functions except the printing function.

Can I add a network hard drive to a Wi-Fi network?

There are two basic methods to add storage to a wireless network, but it is best to place the drive close to your router, no matter which one is used, connect them with cables instead of wireless adapters. Generally, you do not need to place the network drive in a different room, And the wired connection is always faster and more reliable than the wireless connection, especially when you have a Gigabit Ethernet device.

What you really need is to use network memory on a Wi-Fi network. You can connect any NAS network attached storage device to the vro Ethernet port to achieve this. You can also purchase a Linksys NSLU2 device that connects two USB hard drives to any of your routers over Ethernet.

Can I use VoIP on Wi-Fi?

Voice on the IP address actually requires a relatively small bandwidth-less than 100 Kbit/s for each call. The problem of VoIP communication over wi-fi is not just a priority issue: if other people on the network are downloading large files from the Internet, when you make a call at the same time, the call will be interrupted or delayed.

Although the faster your vro, the fewer problems you encounter when using VoIP. The latest vro also supports 802.11e QoS, and the priority of streaming data transmission is higher than that of conventional data transmission. However, you must use a matching adapter that also supports QoS.
