1. Preparations before installation (minimal installation of FreeBSD5.4)

1. FreeBSD5.4 installation disk

You must have FreeBSD5.4 ISO files (that is, 5.4-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso and the second disk 5.4-RELEASE-i386-disc2.iso will be used in later learning ). If not, go to ftp.freebsdchina.org or another FTP.

Ii. Formal Installation

Step 1 start the CD

Set your server to start from the CD. Use the default installation method. After 10 seconds, the system will start from 1. boot FreeBSD [default] is installed with the default option. If you do not want to wait, press enter to confirm the installation.

Step 2 sysinstall Interface

After confirmation, the system will go to the self-check and then enter a simple and practical graphical installation interface for sysinstall. The second Standard is Standard installation. This is often used by beginners. In addition, the general tutorial also introduces how to install it first, and ALL will be selected during installation. Because we minimize the installation, we select the fourth (Expree) m Custom installation method and then we will enter the Custom installation interface.

Step 3 allocate hard disk space

Select the third option 3 Partition for disk allocation
Press key A to automatically allocate and press Key Q to return

The first one will require you to select the OS you need by pressing the shortcut key. I tried it. If no other boot program chooses the third one, it won't work, in addition, I think other operating systems must also be configured to enable FreeBSD to start normally.

Step 4 Partition

Select 4 Label as the partition, press the key, and then press Q to return the automatic partition. Automatic partitioning divides the hard disk into five partitions: root directory/and swap/var/tmp/usr.

Step 5 custom installation:

Select 5 Distribution to enter the next level

Then select Minimal for Minimal installation
