System: Fedora 7
Graphics: ATI X1650
Installation Method:
I. I am used to re-installing the video card driver after each kernel update. A few days ago, I suddenly updated kernel 2.6.23 and found that the video card cannot be driven. After google, I found that 8.42.3 does not support the kernel, fortunately, we found the solution:
1. Download the driver 8.43.3 of ATI.
2. download the patch.
Http://pluto.blackbone-ev.de from this website/
3. decompress the installation package and patch of ati.
Sh ati-driver-installer-8.42.3-x86.x86_64.run -- extract ati
Decompress the entire installation package to the ati directory.
Decompress the patch.
Gtar xvf patch842.tar.bz2
Get a file like a fglrx-842-2623.patch.
4. Install patches.
Put your patch file under the directory decompressed by the installation package, that is, the ati directory. Put it in this subdirectory:
Ati/common/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod
In this subdirectory:
Patch-p0 firegl_public.c fglrx-842-2623.patch
In this way, the patch is ready.
5. Create and install the rpm package.
Return to the ati directory and run the following command:
Sh packages/Fedora/ati-packager.sh -- buildpkg F7
Its script is not very good. The running directory must be ati. Note that.
6. Go back to the top-level directory and you will see several new rpm packages.
Installation command:
Yum localinstall *. rpm -- nogpgcheck
In fact, only one kernel-module-ATI-fglrx-2.6.23.1-10.fc7-8.42.3-1.f7.i386.rpm is installed
7. log out and then log on. You can enable the 3D desktop again.
2. If the 2.26.3 kernel is updated and the 8.42.3 driver is installed, uninstall the old driver first.
Add and delete software included in Fedora 7 and uninstall the following RPM packages:
ATI-fglrx-8.42.3-1.f7.i386.rpm
ATI-fglrx-control-center-8.42.3-1.f7.i386.rpm
ATI-fglrx-devel-8.42.3-1.f7.i386.rpm
Kernel-module-ATI-fglrx-2.6.23.1-10.fc7-8.42.3-1.f7.i386.rpm
If no Patch is installed for 8.42.3, enter:
Cd/usr/share/ati
Sh fglrx-uninstall.sh
Uninstall the old driver.
3. Install the 8.43.2 DRIVER:
Su
Sh ati-driver-installer-7-11-x86.x86_64.run
Follow the prompts to install. After installation, enter:
Aticonfig -- initial -- input =/etc/X11/xorg. conf
Restart, terminal input:
Glxinfo | grep direct
Output
Direct rendering: Yes
Installation complete. Enter:
Glxgears
And
Fgl_glxgears
Test the video card score.
