I believe that many linux beginners, or those who have not been familiar with linux for a long time, have compiled the kernel. For that reason, the NFS service is required, when starting the NFS service, you will receive the following prompt:

Starting NFS4 idmapd: FATAL: Module sunrpc not found.
FATAL: Error running install command for sunrpc

The problem is very clear, that is, the sunrpc module is not found. A lot of people may be surprised that they have already selected it during compilation and can see it in the. config file:

In fact, this is where the nfs module is compiled into the kernel, rather than a module.

At this point, the problem was found, but how to solve it, how to compile SUNRPC into a module, I tried a lot of methods, and even directly modified it. the config file, but every time you make the file, sunrpc automatically corrected it to compile the file into the kernel and found a lot of experts who did not solve the problem.

Since then, it has been a waste of resources, and it is really difficult to get around (on the road to bypassing previous problems, we often encounter you in the past, in fact, there are some ways, like close to real-distance ), finally, we found clues from fs/Kconfig:

That is to say, other modules are dependent on sunrpc. If a module is compiled to the kernel, sunrpc is also compiled to the kernel. This can be solved. Compile the above two modules into modules (m), and sunrpc is finally compiled into modules as expected. Nfs can be started normally.
