I. About Japanese input methods

Not only do people who have just started to learn Japanese do not know how to install and use Japanese input methods on their computers and how they can correctly browse Japanese webpages, even people who have many years of experience using Japanese language are often not very familiar with it. Although many people are reluctant to use Japanese input methods, they are not the best method.
To determine which input method is the best, you must first understand all your needs. As a Chinese student studying Japanese, we always need to use Japanese, Chinese, and English, in addition, we often need to use Chinese and Japanese at the same time in the same article, or even in the same line (sometimes in English), especially when we are engaged in translation work. From this point of view, Japanese operating systems that are pure Japanese and cannot enter Chinese characters cannot meet our basic requirements, so it is not a good input method. Although you can select Japanese hirakana and katakana in the Soft Keyboard Input Method of Microsoft pinyin, you cannot enter Japanese Chinese characters, and it is very troublesome to use. Of course, this does not meet our requirements.
The best operating system that meets our various needs should be Win2000 with a multi-language support system. However, when installing Win2000, if you select the "typical installation" method, there is no Japanese input method. To use the Japanese input method, select "custom installation" when installing Win2000, select "Japanese input support" and "Japanese display support" in the multi-language options to correctly use the Japanese input method and display Japanese webpage content.
After installing Win2000 with the Japanese input method, click the input method icon in the lower-right corner of the screen to find the Japanese input method (Microsoft IME 2000 (Japan )). Click the input method to display the floating toolbar of the input method. By default, the left side is displayed with a half-width "". Click it. In the pop-up menu, select hiragana (hiragana) at the top of the page. Then, "hiragana" appears at the top of the page. Then, you can enter hirakana and Chinese characters. To enter a katakana name, select "katakana" in the menu that appears. Katakana can be divided into full-width and half-width. Select the appropriate one.
To convert an article or even a line of text to another input method (such as a Chinese input method or an English input method, in the lower-right corner of the screen, click the input method icon and then select it. This is very convenient. Now you can enter different languages in the same document in the same operating system. You do not need to write Chinese in the Chinese operating system first, log out of the Chinese system, enter the Japanese system, and then enter Japanese.
The biggest benefit of Win2000 is that no matter what you use Program You can also use Japanese. That is, whether you use office software such as Word, Excel, access, FrontPage, Dreamweaver, or other web page creation software, you can use the Japanese input method at the same time. Writing E-MAIL is of course no problem.
If you do not have Win2000, you can enter Japanese for Win98, but you must first install a browser software for ie5.5 (ie5.0 may also work, you must also select the "custom installation" method, and then select "Japanese input support" and "Japanese display support" among other options in the multi-language options, to correctly use the Japanese input method and correctly display Japanese webpage content. Ie5.5 is available in download zones of large websites such as Sina and Sohu, and can be downloaded for free at any time.
In addition, if you use WIN98 + Office2000, you can also enter Japanese. However, Office2000 must be a complete version, that is, a version that includes a Language Pack (Language Pack) and supports multi-language support. (If Office2000 has been installed,) after you put the Office2000 installation CD into the optical drive, click "start" and select "Microsoft Office Tools" from the "program" sub-menu ", select Microsoft Office language settings to display the corresponding dialog box. Find the list of available languages, click the check box on the left of "Japanese", and close the dialog box.
Use WIN98 + ie5.5 or WIN98 + Office2000 this method, when you use Word and write E-MAIL, And when you use Win2000 is the same. However, in other places, that is to say, when you use office software such as Excel and access, or use web page production software such as FrontPage and Dreamweaver, based on the current editing experience, the Japanese input method cannot be used, that is, when using these programs or software, the Japanese input method cannot be found in the input method icon in the lower right corner of the screen. This is the biggest drawback of this method. If any of you know that you can use the Japanese input method in these cases, please let us know. I am very grateful!
According to the information collected by this editor, software such as "Antarctic Star" also provides Japanese input methods, but this editor has never been used and does not know the effect. If you are interested, you can download a software and try it. Its URL is: http://www.njstar.com/

Ii. Japanese Display Method

Sometimes, when you open a Japanese website, you may see garbled characters, because the website maker uses a different encoding method than the browser currently used by the viewer. To correctly display Japanese content, open the "View" menu at the top of the browser window, select the "encoding" option, and then select "Japanese (automatically selected )". If this option is not displayed, select "Others" and then select "Japanese (automatically selected.
Of course, you must first install the "Japanese display support" function to correctly display Japanese. For the installation method, refer to the "Japanese input method" section above.

Iii. Methods for inputting Japanese

There are basically two ways to enter Japanese.
One way is to directly use a Japanese keyboard, that is, a keyboard that directly identifies Japanese Kana and English letters on each key for input. This method is mainly suitable for people who use Japanese-only systems. Because this method is not easy to input Chinese characters, it is not suitable for Chinese users.
Another method is to use a normal keyboard, that is, a keyboard with only English letters on the key for input. In this way, you can use the Roman alphabet of Japanese to input Japanese. For example, if you want to enter the word "cold", enter the five letters "s a m u I" on the keyboard according to the Roman phonetic alphabet "Sa Mu I, then, the dotted line "fill" appears, and then press the Space key, the corresponding Chinese character "Cold fill" appears, and then press "enter" to confirm the input. If the Chinese character that appears is not the one you need, that is, when this pronunciation pair has many Chinese characters with the same sound, you should press the page flip key "Page Down" as if you selected the homophone when entering Chinese to find the desired Chinese character, and then press the corresponding number to select the input.
The second method is to use an ordinary keyboard. It is very convenient for Chinese people to enter Chinese, Japanese, and English. So we 'd better use this input method.
For more information about the Roman phonetic symbols and precautions of Different Japanese Kana, refer to the article "Japanese Kana and its pronunciation overview" in this topic ". As long as you carefully study and master the content of this article, I believe that you can smoothly and easily enter Japanese.
