LINUX network configuration problems

LINUX network configuration problems-general Linux technology-Linux technology and application information, the following is a detailed description. I installed two versions of LINUX under the virtual machine, namely FEDORA8 and UBUNTU.
FEDORA8 can access the Internet. However, UBUNTU cannot access the Internet. It may be that the network is not configured during the installation of mongout. How can I configure the network and reset the IP address on the terminal? I'm sure the VM settings are correct. Both versions are selected for NAT. Select to bridge the local connection but not connect to the Internet. Using PUTTY to connect several VMS cannot be connected.
In addition, on the UBUNTU terminal, I enter ifconfig-a to display IP information.
Enter ifconfig-a in the ora8 terminal and the prompt is bash: ifconfig: command not found. How can this problem be solved.

Thank you for your answers!
