Microsoft will publicly test SP1 of Windows 7 and Windows Server July R2 by the end of 2008. It is only about a month away from this date, in addition to sending invitations to testers, Microsoft started other preparations. To help testers smoothly install Windows 7 SP1 Beta, Microsoft published an article titled "Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 installation SP troubleshooting" on its official website.
Microsoft said that when you install the SP service package for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, you may receive an error message "not installed successfully", which is commonly caused:
-Windows Servicing Store is inconsistent. Windows Servicing Store is a required feature for service package installation.
-A program on your computer hinders installation, such as anti-virus software.
To solve these problems, you must first download and install the System Update Readiness Tool, which can help you solve problems that may prevent SP service package installation or Windows Update.
After running the system update preparation tool, try to reinstall the SP service package. If you still cannot install it, follow these steps:
-Close all applications and restart the computer;
-After the restart, shut down all anti-virus software or anti-spyware software that will run when the system starts. You can usually close these applications from the notification area on the right of the taskbar. In the notification area, right-click the program icon and choose Close, exit, or disable.
-After Disabling these antivirus software or protection software, try to reinstall the SP service package.
-After the SP is installed, enable anti-virus software or protection software.
