Brief introduction

IBM launched the first two products of IBM Puresystems expert Integration Systems family in April 2012: IBM Pureflex System and IBM Pureapplication system. November 2012, IBM Puredata System (specifically for data service delivery optimized) joined the Puresystems product family.

After the IBM Puresystems product (specifically IBM Pureapplication System) was launched, customers raised a lot of questions about how this new system will affect its IT organization. An earlier article described some of the general areas in which Puresystems needed to be changed by the organization. These concepts are described in detail in this article, specifically to provide more detailed guidance to organizations that wish to adopt Pureapplication System.

The IBM pureapplication system is a platform system designed and tuned for transactional Web and database applications. It's easy to deploy, customize, protect, and manage a flexible platform that perceives workloads. It reduces the amount of work and time that customers need to support new and existing workloads. IBM Pureapplication System implements the PaaS layer to deliver superior IT benefits. With Pureapplication System, users can create their own software, middleware, and virtual resource patterns, or reuse fully out-of-the-box patterns from IBM. Users can configure and share these patterns in a unique framework, which consists of IT guidelines, industry standards, and years of best practices and industry standards, and is therefore referred to as an "expert integration System (Expert integrated Systems)".

The unique value of the pattern

IBM is unique and puts expert experience into pureapplication System through the Professional skills model (pattern of expertise). Schemas can be considered as predefined schemas for an application. Each component of the topology is pre-installed in the operating system and middleware, which is fully integrated, preconfigured, and tuned across components, and is hooked up to advanced services such as security, monitoring, caching, and so on.

The professional skills model includes best practices for complex tasks learned from decades of customer and partner service activities that are captured, tested and optimized by the lab, and eventually built into the system. In each pureapplication System, IBM provides a variety of ready-to-use patterns for common enterprise software, such as IBM WebSphere application Server and IBM DB2. Additional patterns can also be purchased for other middleware from IBM and business partners through IBM Puresystem Centre, including IBM WebSphere MQ, IBM Integration Bus, and IBM WebSphere Port Al and so on. In addition, you can use the built-in editor to easily customize an existing schema, or to build a new schema from Ready-to-use components or custom components that you create. You can then deploy each of the modes multiple times. The Pureapplication System provides lifecycle management around the deployed pattern, called an instance.

Schemas can achieve value faster by eliminating manual steps and automating system delivery. Patterns also improve efficiency and simplicity, reduce it costs and resources, and reduce the internal expertise needed to deploy the solution. Because repeatable, optimized deployments reduce the risk of human error, the pattern also strengthens control. Details of the different schema types available in Pureapplication system are described in these articles for pureapplication system preparation.

Major steps to adopt Pureapplication System

After the purchase of Pureapplication System is decided, subsequent steps will be implemented in the following 4 main regions:

To install and set up Pureapplication System in the data center

You need to perform some pre-installation steps to ensure that the data center has the appropriate prerequisites for pureapplication System. This ensures that logistics, power requirements, networking, and other requirements are met before the Pureapplication System hardware arrives at the customer site. IBM has a well-defined process for obtaining this information and providing it to system engineers at the time of installation. Although the installation is performed by IBM, obtaining this information requires the customer to participate and perhaps require the customer to perform changes to ensure that logistical, power, and cooling requirements are met prior to installation.

Identify and develop workloads to run on Pureapplication System

This involves determining which workloads should be transferred to the Pureapplication System, and whether new or existing patterns need to be developed to deploy these workloads. This step is performed primarily by the customer, but IBM can help with the service activities or help you build a center of excellence.

Deploy and manage the workload lifecycle

After the workload is deployed, these tasks will include managing the workload lifecycle, monitoring the resources used by the workload, and maintaining the patterns and workload of the deployment.

Manage Pureapplication System

This set of tasks involves overall management and monitoring of the pureapplication system to ensure that all the different workloads run smoothly in the system. Administrative tasks include creating different cloud groups within the system to provide the required isolation for different user groups using the Pureapplication system, handling security authentication and authorization, auditing, application system maintenance, and so on. Monitoring tasks include viewing overall system utilization, bottlenecks, and performing the necessary adjustments.

In short, the adoption of pureapplication system requires changes to your IT organization, because many of the challenges that IT organizations typically devote a lot of effort to are not present when using expert integration systems, or have shrunk in scope and impact. The remainder of this article describes the organizational structure and type of change required to successfully adopt Pureapplication Systems in your IT organization. This topic is presented in the context of building a pureapplication system Excellence Center for your organization and describes the roles that IT team members must take in adopting pureapplication system.
