Performance Comparison Between Ubuntu12.04 and 14.04

This article uses the latest test on the phoronix website to compare the performance of Ubuntu12.04LTS and Ubuntu14.04LTS. On the test platform, we use the same HP Elitebook notebook, Intel Core i52520 (& ldquo; SandyBridge & rdquo; architecture) processor, supports HDGraphics3000, 4 GBRAM, and a 160 GBSSD, test the same configurations and Methods

This document compares the performance of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS through the latest tests on the phoronix website.

On the test platform, we use the same HP Elitebook notebook, Intel Core i5 2520 ("Sandy Bridge" Architecture) processor, supports HD Graphics 160, 4 gb ram, and a gb ssd, the same configurations and methods for testing are the same as those for earlier 12.04.2/12.04.3/12.04.4 tests.

With the release of a new Ubuntu 12.04.4 version, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is planned to be released in April 2014, codenamed "Trusty Tahr", meaning "trustworthy taryang ". Using the Linux 3.13 kernel (later than 3.11 kernel version 12.04.4) and the improved Unity 7.1.2 interface, the main update to support GCC 4.8.2 compiler includes complete support for Go1.1.2. In Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, GCC and other component updates will be transplanted to Versions later than Ubuntu 12.04.5 to provide long-term support.

The test results of a single Dbench instance show that the performance of the system based on the Linux 3.13 kernel is much higher than that of the Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS. Both Ubuntu LTS versions use the EXT4 File System option by default.

In the PostMark test, there is no major difference in performance with the Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS platform.

The classic OpenGL engine game Quake3, due to the performance sensitivity of the Quake3 engine, the test project still looks at the graphics performance in the OpenGL project. There are still some differences under the High Resolution 1600x1200.
